On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Shriniwas Patil extends warm greetings to the people of Sikkim.

Hon’ble Governor has said, “I join the countrymen and the people across the globe to pay tributes and respect to our beloved Bapu on his 148th Birth Anniversary. The day remembered and observed as International Day of Non Violence as a mark of respect and reverence to this great soul and son of Mother India, the world today is in need of Gandhi like never before. The conflict, insecurity, mistrust, and misery that the humankind is confronting today can only be solved by non violence, truth and brotherhood as propagated by Gandhiji. It is high time that world community commit to tread on the ideals Gandhiji propagated for the peaceful co existence of entire mankind. On the individual way of leaving, Gandhian ideals of simplicity and healthy living are the treasures worth emulating in our life which can save solve many complexities we are facing today.

Our country has moved towards Swachh Bharat to ensure that we dedicate Swachh Bharat, the idea so dear to Bapu, on his 150th Birth Anniversary. The countrymen has overwhelmingly participated in special campaign,‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ making it a resounding success as a part of countrywide Swachhata drive over the last fortnight.

As we move towards the idea of ‘New India’ it must be our endeavour to inculcate the culture of self and community Swachhata among our children from early childhood. The parents and the teachers have their responsibility cut out if we are to see ‘Swachh Bharat’ a sustained reality in future without having to resort to any special campaigns and programmes.

Late us all take Gandhiji’s teachings in right perspective and work collectively towards strengthening his ideal of ‘Simple Living High Thinking’. Let us focus more on richness of thoughts and actions rather than material possessions.”
