MESSAGE

On the auspicious occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Ganga Prasad extends warm greetings to the people of Sikkim.

In his message the Hon’ble Governor has said, “as the world congregates to celebrate the 150th Birth Anniversary of the apostle of non-violence and truth, whom we fondly call Bapu, it is also the time to dedicate ourselves towards spreading and working on his message of truth, peace and non-violence. Gandhiji’s teachings of simplicity and healthy living is the treasure for life to be propagated in its right spirit which can solve many problems that we are facing today in our day to day life.

In today’s world, our homes and surroundings are cluttered with such materials, decorations and furniture, which one can very well do without. In Gandhiji’s words, ‘they are nothing but means of harbouring dust, bacteria and insects.’

At a time when we are vowed to the clarion of  ‘Swachh Bharat’ as envisioned by Gandhiji to be dedicated on his 150th Birth Anniversary and have since come a long way to achieve it, we must also reflect upon our way of living. Swachhata has direct correlation with our thoughts, deeds and productivity, besides its bearing on our health.

Let us not allow dispensable materials and belongings that are harmful to our environment and sustainability, stifle our homes, workplaces and surroundings. Let’s take  Gandhiji’s  teachings in right perspective and practice ways and means to ensure  the use of available resources for gainful activities with less emphasis on material possessions.”
