H.E Mr. Kenneth I. Juster, Ambassador of  United States of America to India called on Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim Shri Ganga Prasad today evening at New Raj Bhavan.

He was accompanied by US Consul General Kolkata Ms. Patty Hoffman, Economic Advisor of US Consul Office Kolkata Ms. Sonia Laul and Consular Officer Kolkata Mr. Daniel Wilson on the occasion. 

It was a courtesy call by the American Diplomat who is on two days visit to Sikkim. He is scheduled to visit  Nathu-La, Rumtek Monastery, Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, Deorali besides meeting with State dignitaries. It may be mentioned that Sikkim was the 28th State the American diplomat has visited on his way to cover all Indian states once he visits Arunachal Pradesh after Sikkim.

 In a formal interaction, the Ambassador expressed his deep appreciation of the warmth and hospitality that Sikkimese exhibit as their identity. He also mentioned his amazement on seeing cultural and natural diversity and beauty of Sikkim as its distinct attraction.

Appreciating Sikkim’s initiative towards promoting organic farming as a sustainable agricultural practice, He opined that a delegation level visit to United States would help Sikkim to explore the market for its organic produce and seek technical assistance towards atomization of farming and processing of organic products. He also underlined that by addressing the connectivity issues on priority, Sikkim can take greater strides in organic farming and tourism sector.

Hon’ble Governor expressed his delight in meeting the US diplomat and sought technical and market assistance in optimising the organic movement that Sikkim has championed. He suggested for greater US Sikkim people to people exchange and invited more tourists to visit Sikkim in a bid to boost tourism and trade. He also sought special facilitation assistance to Sikkim’s organic products to reach American markets for better value.
