As an special initiative from Governor’s Secretariat under Hon’ble Governor’s village adoption programme, ‘A Three Week Workshop on Metal Fabrication’  for selected youths from Navey Shotak& Amba GPUs in East Sikkim was formally inaugurated today at Raj Bhavan premises near Zero Point, Gangtok. Dr. K Jayakumar IAS, Addl. Chief Secretary to Hon’ble Governor, Shri H K Sharma, IAS, Secretary, Commerce and Industries Department, Addl.Director Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Department Shri D.L Ramudamu, Asstt. Director MSME, Government of India, Shri D.R. Sharma, Officers from Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Science and Technology Department, Panchayat of the respective GPUs, officials from Apparel Training and Design Centre, Penlong, trainee participants, representatives from various homestays in the State were present during the occasion.

In the formal orientation, Dr. K Jayakumar provided a detailed insight into the aims and missions of the workshop and the initiative taken by Governor’s Secretariat. He underlined the scope and demand of metal fabrication in the market and stressed on promoting entrepreneurship and creation of employment through capacity building in the sector.

It may be mentioned that the three-week workshop which includes theory and practical session, is designed to provide basic skill for production of household metal decorative items, indoor and outdoor furniture, ornamental designs which would enhance the aesthetic value of homestays and other commercial establishments being operated in the State.

Shri H.K Sharma in his address stressed on the need to capitalise on the opportunities provided by the State to be a self-sustaining entrepreneur and mentioned various programmes and policies being initiated by the government to facilitate Start-Ups in the State. He urged the trainee participants to make the best use of the training to kickstart their own ventures.

The officials from Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, MSME, ATDC, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Department also addressed the inaugural function.

However in view of emerging public health scenario following the outbreak of Novel Coronavirus-19 disease and the advisories from the government, the workshop has been postponed for a later date and will commence once the situation normalises.
