CONDOLENCE  MESSAGE

 

Honorable Governor of Sikkim Shri Ganga Prasad has expressed deep sadness and grief on the demise of two women stalwarts of the State namely Smt. Hemlata Chettri, the first woman Legislator of Sikkim and Smt. Santosh Nirash, the first woman journalist of Sikkim  following  prolonged illness.

In his condolence message, Honorable Governor wrote;

“I join the people of Sikkim to express my deep sense of grief on the sad demise of two distinguished women personality namely Smt. Hemlata Chettri, the first woman Legislator of Sikkim and Smt. Santosh Nirash, the first woman journalist of the State who had set benchmark in their respective field of work by their courage and determination.

Their inspiring work in their chosen domain of service have paved way for a new beginning in Sikkimese society and ignited many aspiring Sikkimese especially womenfolk to embark on the sphere of work  which was traditionally helmed by men folk at that time. The service rendered by Lt. Hemlata Chettri and Lt. Santosh Nirash during the initial phase of State’s transition into democracy is etched in history and will be remembered for posterity.

At this time of bereavement, I offer my deepest condolences  and pray to the almighty for bestowing strength to the family members of both the departed soul to cope with this irreparable loss.”
