GANGTOK, OCTOBER 5: The Governor of Sikkim, Shri Ganga Prasad has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh each to the next kin of Late Basanti Sundas, Assistant Nursing Superintendent (ANS), STNM Hospital, and Late, Dil Kumar Rai, IRB Jawan who were died due to Coronavirus infection.

 

The Governor said, “Their sacrifice in the fight against Covid-19 will always be remembered by Sikkimese people. They were great warriors who brought glory to the frontline medical and police fraternity fighting against pandemic. They were a big inspiration to us and we bow to their spirit of service to humanity. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families.”

 

Late Basanti Sundas (49), Assistant Nursing Superintendent, STNM hospital who passed away on September 18 last month due to Coronavirus at New STNM hospital, Sochyagang. Late Sundas served in the frontline of the war against the pandemic at the emergency ward of New STNM hospital and died of the Coronavirus infection. The deceased has become the first case of medical fraternity succumbing to deadly virus infection in the State.

 

Another IRB jawan, Dil Kumar Rai, deployed as Commander of the Static Guard at Melli Check Post, South Sikkim, succumbed to Covid-19 at STNM Hospital Gangtok on September 28.

 

Meanwhile, the Governor also remembered former Chief Minister of Sikkim, Late Shri Nar Bahadur Bhandari on his birth anniversary. He remembered Late Bhandari’s contribution in constitutional recognition of Nepali language in the Eight Scheduled of the Indian Constitution.
