Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim Shri Ganga Prasad on his maiden trip along the famous Silk Route in the eastern border of Sikkim visited various places and interacted with the people on 4th December 2018.

Hon’ble Governor started his visit from Tsongmo Lake where he was received by Black Cat Division officials in the morning. He then proceeded to Kupup village where he was warmly received by the residents. He made a brief halt there and travelled along the famous silk route to Zuluk Village. Hon’ble Governor then visited  Gokul Public School and encouraged the teachers and students to work had for the betterment of themselves and the society. The students presented patriotic songs. Later, Hon’ble Governor visited the homestays in the locality and assured to take up the problems and grievances of the villagers concerning medical facility and internet services at the appropriate level. Hon’ble Governor encouraged the homestay operators to preserve the Sikkimese hospitality and cuisine for the benefit of the tourists visiting Sikkim. He also presented cash grant to school manging committee and distributed shawls to the village elders.

On his second leg of the visit, Hon’ble Governor reached Rongli Community Hall where he was given community reception by the sub divisional officials, members of Zilla and Gram Panchayats, teachers, students, Self Help Groups, Asha workers, members of tourism development committee, business community representatives and the general public of Rongli.

 

In a formal interactive programme at the Community Hall,  various grievances and issues of public importance such as internet connectivity, roads, banking services etc.  were placed before the Hon’ble Governor by Sub Divisional Magistrate and representatives of various organisations.

While assuring to take up the problems at the appropriate forum, Hon’ble Governor urged the  officials to reach out to the rural masses and work in close proximity to safeguard and promote the interest of villagers and farmers. He stated that without transforming the villages, we cannot imagine about developed India.Hon’ble Governor further stressed on the need to capitalise on the fame that Sikkim has got in the field of organic farming and tourism, also appealed all stakeholders to  work collectively and responsibly for the prosperity of the State.

 Hon’ble Governor in his last leg of the visit, reached Rangpo, where he was warmly received by business community. In a brief interaction with the community representatives at the Raj Bhavan Winter Camp, Hon’ble Governor urged them to work in the interest of the Sikkim. Mentioning that Sikkim is hailed as a land of peace and harmony where all segment of society including business community carry out their  economic activity in harmony, Hon’ble Governor also asked them to reciprocate and contribute to the overall development and prosperity of Sikkim.
