Gangtok, 30th October, 2022 (Raj Bhavan) Members of Germany parliamentary Committee on Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection called on Hon’ble Governor, Shri Ganga Prasad at Raj Bhawan this evening. It was a courtesy call by the Germany Parliamentary Committee led by Herald Ebner who is on a visit to Sikkim.  

The Honorable Governor stated that Sikkim being a small state holds a lot of potential in organic farming, environment conservation, tourism industry, agriculture etc. He also highlighted the successful trail of saffron cultivation in various parts of Sikkim.

Germany parliamentarian appreciated the State government for their efforts to make Sikkim as organic state of the country and shared their observation of their field visits

During the meeting several issues related to organic farming, environmental protection, nature conservation and consumer protection policies were discussed as the world is facing several environmental crises: global warming, species extinction and plastic waste pollution.

Head of delegation, Harald Ebner said that it is important to create a certain work with regard to climate and sustainable action prosperity. He mentioned that the destruction of nature has risen globally, fertile soils are dwindling and many forests are in critical condition. At the same time, deforestation is advancing at a rapid pace which needs certain actions and policies on protecting and reclaiming important natural areas.

Honorable Governor urged delegates to replicate the Sikkim model and engage in organic farming, assuring all possible support in this regard. Adding that practices of organic farming is one big way to save our earth and chemical free farming.
