Hon`ble Governor of Sikkim Shri Ganga Prasad today called on Hon`ble President of India Shri Ramnath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

It was a courtesy call by Hon`ble Governor. He sought Hon`ble President`s continued support and patronage  towards various developmental needs of Sikkim with special reference to it`s straregic location and special status in the Indian Union.

Hon`ble Governor on the occasion, in the capacity of Chancellor of Sikkim Manipal University, also extended invitation to Hon`ble President to grace the upcoming Convocation of SMUslated later in October this year. Hon`ble President has,  in principal, accepted the invitation and has assured to confirm his participation  on a  later date.

In another engagement,  Hon`ble Governor called on Union Minister of State (I/C) for Civil Aviation Shri Hardeep Singh Puri at his residence  this evening.

Hon`ble Governor through a formal letter raised the issue of Pakyong Airport which has remained out of operation since 1st June this year. He also highlighted the situation and setback that Sikkim has had to face in tourism and allied sectors following the closure of the flight operations.

Hon`ble Minister assured to take up the matter on priority and has conveyed that he would be sending a high level team of Airport Authority of India for technical inspection. He also conveyed that  ministry will explore all options available to ensure operation of regular flights from Pakyong Airport .
