Strength Lifting

In a special function held at Raj Bhavan on 18th April, 2017, Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Shriniwas Patil awarded ‘Rajya Puraskar’ to thirteen Bharat Scouts and Guides contingents from four different schools of East districts of Sikkim.


Hon’ble Governor also handed over the warrant of appointment as State Commissioner of Guides and Scouts to Mrs. Meena Bhutia and Mr. Tulsi Prasad Dhungel respectively on behalf of from National Commissioner. Similarly four members of Bharat Scouts and guides were also awarded Beds and Parchments to be Assistant Leader Trainers, Sikkim.


Dr. H.P. Chettri, State Chief Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Sikkim, State Secretary and Treasurer of the organisation, State Commissioners, Training Commissioners, Assistant State Training Commissioner of Guides were present on the occasion.


Dr. Chettri apprised the Hon’ble Governor, who is also the Patron of the Bharat Scouts and Guides, Sikkim, about various activities and camps of the Bharat Scouts and Guides, Sikkim over the last one year. Hon’ble Governor while enquiring about the future course of action, urged the organisation to be a platform to motivate and encourage the student to aim big in life and to be self reliant.


The awardees will now have the opportunity to represent the State in the National Level Testing Camp for the contention of Rashtrapati Award next year.


Earlier on the day, Hon’ble Governor felicitated strength lifters Shri Pema Dorjee Bhutia, Ganesh Kumar Subba, Prakash Basnet and Santosh Gupta for their remarkable performance at Colombo, Sri Lanka last month. The strength lifters Pema Dorjee Bhutia, Ganesh Kumar Subba, Prakash Basnet and Santosh Gupta had won three gold medals and one silver medal respectively including the Champion of Champions award to Pema Dorjee Bhutia.


Hon’ble Governor lauded the athletes on their accomplishment and conveyed his best wishes for the success in the upcoming events.
