Mr. Alan Gemmell OBE, Director of British Council India, today called on Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Shriniwas Patil at Raj Bhavan. He was accompanied by Shri Debanjan Chakrabarti, Director, British Council East and Northeast India on the occasion.


It was a courtesy call by the Mr Gemmell who is on his first official visit to Sikkim since assuming charge in April 2016. Hon’ble Governor extended warm greetings and welcomed the delegates with traditional scarf.


During interaction, Mr. Gemmell shared his plan to promote educational and cultural exchanges and enhancing the employability of the Sikkimese youth. He highlighted the council’s plan to facilitate and contribute to the development of Northeast in line with Government of India’s Act East Policy. He also provided a brief outline of the council’s is work towards providing better English skills in collaboration with state government.


Hon’ble Governor expressed delight on the effort of the council to provide more exposure to the youth of North Eastern States and urged the council to collaborate with Ministry of DoNEAR and North Eastern Council for intended outcome of the programmes. Hon’ble Governor also urged the council to facilitate and promote rich cultural heritage of the Northeast through appropriate platform and programmes for talented youths of the North East
