On the occasion of International Day of Yoga, Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Shriniwas Patil has extended warm greetings to the people of Sikkim.

Hon’ble Governor said, “It is indeed a great prospect that the world today has accepted Yoga as a part of life and an important physical activity with the holistic objective of attaining physical, mental and spiritual well being. Evolved in India, it is perhaps the biggest legacy of our ancient pride that we Indians have given to the world. Worldwide celebration of the International Day of Yoga over the last two years by our brethren across the globe have brought immense pride and joy to all of us as Indians. As we celebrate the third International Yoga Day, it is the opportune time to deliberate on the promotion and propagation of this ancient physical art of well being. This is also the time that we, as world leader in the field, should work on ways and means to advance the scope of art and science of Yoga to ensure its multidimensional benefit to the entire mankind.

It is indeed heartening that following the global recognition of Yoga on the initiative of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Sikkim has taken the lead in the country and introduced yoga at the elementary level in all government schools in the State. With 650 trained teachers, we have ensured that basic yoga classes are incorporated in the curriculum in all government schools. It is also noteworthy that 16 students from different age group selected from schools across the State are participating in National Yoga Olympiad organised by NCERT this year. With these efforts, Sikkim has taken rapid strides in the country when it comes to promotion and propagation of yoga and integration of yoga in our way of living.

Since Yoga has the power to establish peace, harmony and brotherhood bringing world community closer than ever before, let us integrate it in our life to bring unanimity in our thoughts, words and action.

PRO to Governor
