five reputed professional football players of Sikkim

Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Shriniwas Patil today granted audience to a group of five reputed professional football players of Sikkim at Raj Bhavan. Indian national team members namely Nirmal Chettri, Sanju Pradhan, Bikash Jairu , Robin Gurung and Nim Tshering Lepcha were part of the group.


Hon’ble Governor expressed his delight on meeting the players representing Sikkim at the national footballing arena and congratulated them on their achievements. Hon’ble Governor stated that Sikkim is blessed with abundant footballing talents, the need is to identify, groom and help them to excel in the field. This is possible only through the collaborative effort of all the stakeholders including professional clubs, football association and sports authorities. He also encouraged the players to look into the future prospects of professional football in reputed clubs so that they are secured financially.


While lauding the initiative of the players to open football academies at various places across the State, Hon’ble Governor urged them to contribute back to society when they are in prime and earning.


The players also submitted some suggestions for the promotion of sporting activities in Sikkim and football in particular and sought the direction of Hon’ble Governor for the improvement in the overall sporting activities in Sikkim.


Hon’ble Governor assured all possible help in their future endeavours and asked them to remain committed to the promotion of football in Sikkim.
