SKM/GOV/PRO/2017/72 5th September, 2017

On the auspicious occasion of ‘Pang Lhabsol’, the Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Shriniwas Patil and the First Lady Smt Rajanidevi Patil extend warm greetings to the people of Sikkim.

Hon’ble Governor said, “Pang Lhabsol, the indigenous Sikkimese festival with cultural and historical significance has remained an integral part of Sikkimese identity over the decades. It signifies the celebration of historic unity and brotherhood treaty made in the 13th century AD at Kabi Lungtsok between Lepcha chieftain Thekong Thek and Bhutia chieftain Khye Bumsa with majestic and revered Mt. Khangchendzonga as the principal witness. The historic event has since then evolved Sikkim’s identity as the land of unity, peace and tranquillity.

Mt. Khangchendzonga, has always remained at the core of Sikkimese culture and is worshipped as our guardian deity. We seek blessings for our collective well being and continued protection from natural disasters, diseases and catastrophes. The festival is celebrated as the festival of unity by Sikkimese of all sects and faiths. May the day reverberate our commitment to preserve our identity and our unique way of living in harmony with nature.”
