Mr. Hugh Boylan, the Australian Consul General in Kolkata, accompanied by Ms Anagha, Senior Economic Research Officer, called on the Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, at Raj Bhavan this evening.
During the meeting, both dignitaries discussed matters of mutual interest, including education, trade, sports, renewable energy, and cultural exchange between Australia and Sikkim. They also deliberated on the potential for close cooperation in the field of renewable energy and eco-tourism, identifying it as a key area for collaboration. Both sides expressed interest in sharing best practices and learning from each other’s experiences in promoting sustainable tourism.
The Australian Consul General apprised the Hon’ble Governor that Australia is a partner country of the ongoing Kuzu Cultural Festival, to mark the state’s 50th year of statehood. He conveyed his deep admiration for Sikkim’s natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, and expressed a strong desire to explore avenues for deepening people-to-people ties between Australia and Sikkim.
In the course of the interaction, the Hon’ble Governor highlighted Sikkim’s achievements in the fields of education and tourism, as well as its unique status as the only fully organic state in India. He also emphasized the state’s ongoing progress and prosperity.
Furthermore, the Hon’ble Governor expressed his appreciation for the growing partnership between Australia and Sikkim, as well as the broader relationship with the rest of the nation. He extended his best wishes to the Australian Consul General for all future endeavours.
