    Distribution of Assistive Devices

    The Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya distributed aids and appliances, along with Niramaya Health Insurance Cards, to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) at Raj Bhavan, under the theme ‘Hamro Sankalp Viksit Bharat-Pushpit Sikkim’. The program was organized by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India and implemented by the Composite Regional Centre Sikkim (CRC) for the Skill Development, Empowerment & Rehabilitation of PWDs, Assam Linzey.

    One of the key initiatives of the Central Government to support PWDs is the Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchasing/Fitting of Aids/Appliances (ADIP) scheme. The distribution was based on a need-based list provided by the Women and Child Development Department, Government of Sikkim, to various beneficiaries of the State.
    The primary aim of the ADIP scheme is to assist financially disadvantaged individuals with disabilities in acquiring durable, advanced, and scientifically manufactured aids and appliances that can enhance their physical, social, and psychological rehabilitation. This is crucial for mitigating the effects of disabilities and boosting their economic potential.

    During the event, eight wheelchairs, Shriand one Multi-Sensory Inclusive Educational Kit (MSIED) were distributed. Additionally, under the Niramaya Health Insurance Scheme of the National Trust, Government of India, 22 Health Cards were distributed. These cards cater to the needs of individuals with autism, intellectual disability, multiple disabilities, and mental illness.
    Beneficiaries under the Niramaya Health Insurance Scheme are provided with a health insurance cover of one lakh rupees for one year, covering medical check-ups and hospitalization.
