01.10.2026 : Sikkim Governor Shri Om Prakash Mathur chaired the executive board and general council meeting of Namgyal Institute of Tibetology at Lok Bhavan.

Sikkim Governor Shri Om Prakash Mathur chaired the Executive Board and General Council meeting of Namgyal Institute of Tibetology (NIT) Deorali today at the Conference hall of Lok Bhavan.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Ecclesiastical Affairs Department and Vice-Chairman of the NIT, Shri Sonam Lama, Commissioner cum Secretary Lok Bhavan Shri Jitendra Singh Raje, Secretary of Culture Department, Shri Basant Kumar Lama, Secretary of Ecclesiastical Affairs Department, Ms. Kincho Doma, Secretary of AYUSH Department Ms. Suchitra Rasaily, Revenue Secretary Shri Rajendra Sharma, Deputy Secretary from Ministry of AYUSH GoI,  NIT Director Dr. Passang D. Phempu senior officials from NIT and AYUSH Department. 
The Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Shri Jitendra Singh Raje delivered welcomed address and gave a brief overview of NIT Deorali. He mentioned that the NIT is a distinguished institute for the preservation and research of Buddhist and Tibetan history, culture and philosophy.

Director Dr. Passang D. Phempu presented a comprehensive overview of the NIT function through a PowerPoint presentation and highlighted the NIT’s governance structure, encompassing the General Council, Executive Board, and Financial Committee, as well as its regulatory framework and overall functioning. 
The meeting held detailed discussions on the Institute’s budget, infrastructure development and construction works, Drejong Namgyal Sowa Rigpa hospital and several other important matters.

Governor Shri Om Prakash Mathur reviewed the progress of the institute and stressed on strengthening and expanding the research programme intended to document the history, languages and culture and traditions. 
He emphasized the need to promote the study and preservation of the rich regional heritage and focused on several important areas for further strengthening academic and research activities.

Governor also emphasised the need to expand central government sponsored schemes and ensure that the benefits of the government’s welfare schemes reaches everyone. He called for greater efforts to connect the Institute’s activities with wider public interest and to strengthen its role in research, preservation and dissemination of knowledge.

सिक्किम के माननीय राज्यपाल श्री ओम प्रकाश माथुर ने संस्थान के अध्यक्ष के रूप में नामग्याल इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ तिब्बतोलॉजी की संयुक्त कार्यकारी बोर्ड और सामान्य परिषद की बैठक की अध्यक्षता लोक भवन के कॉन्फ्रेंस हॉल में की।

बैठक की शुरुआत में माननीय राज्यपाल के आयुक्त सह सचिव श्री जितेंद्र सिंह राजे ने सभी अतिथियों का स्वागत किया और एनआईटी की पृष्ठभूमि व इतिहास के बारे में संक्षिप्त जानकारी दी। उन्होंने बताया कि यह संस्थान बौद्ध संस्कृति व दर्शन और इतिहास के संरक्षण व अनुसंधान का एक प्रमुख केंद्र है।

इस महत्वपूर्ण बैठक में धर्म विभाग के माननीय मंत्री और संस्थान के उपाध्यक्ष श्री सोनम लामा मुख्य रूप से उपस्थित रहे। बैठक में संस्कृति विभाग के सचिव श्री बसंत लामा, धर्म विभाग सचिव कुंचो डोमा, आयुष सचिव सुचित्रा रसाइली, संस्कृति मंत्रालय के उप सचिव, राजस्व सचिव राजेंद्र शर्मा, आयुष के अतिरिक्त निदेशक डॉ. कर्मा छाडन भूटिया,और एनआईटी के निदेशक डॉ. पासंग डी. फेम्पू सहित एनआईटी के कई वरिष्ठ अधिकारी और प्रतिनिधि शामिल हुए।

परिषद की बैठक में संस्थान के आगामी बजट, बुनियादी ढांचे के विकास और निर्माण कार्य, सोवा रिग्पा के अंतर्गत अस्पताल सहित कई अन्य मुद्दों पर पर विस्तृत चर्चा हुई।

बैठक को संबोधित करते हुए राज्यपाल महोदय ने अनुसंधान कार्यों को मजबूत व व्यापक बनाने पर विशेष जोर देते हुए समृद्ध क्षेत्रीय विरासत के अध्ययन को बढ़ावा देने की बात कही साथ ही
कई महत्त्वपूर्ण मुद्दों पर विशेष ध्यान केंद्रित किया गया।
इसके साथ ही, राज्यपाल महोदय ने केंद्र सरकार द्वारा प्रायोजित योजनाओं का विस्तार करने और उनका लाभ सीधे आम जनता तक पहुंचाने की बात कही।
