The Governor of Sikkim, Om Prakash Mathur Friday embarked three day visit to Mangan district of North Sikkim. On Monday, he visited Chaten, Lachen and engaged with army and people of Lachen.
In a programme, the Governor Shri Mathur dedicated a total of 164 welfare activities and developmental projects to the people of Lachen and Lachung under the operation “Sadbhavana”. The Governor hand over the welfare initiatives to the Pipon of Lachen and Lachung in the presence of Major General K. S. Dhatwal, GOC of the 27 Mountain Division. As part of operation “Sadbhavana”, Indian Army is undertaking multiple welfare activities, Infrastructure Development Projects etc in Lachen and Lachung by engaging the civil administration.
Indian Army taken up various multi-faceted activities under this operation “Sadbhavana”.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said, “Operation “Sadbhavana” outreach olof the Indian Army is a symbol of development and trust in the far flung border areas of Sikkim. Despite challenging conditions, this initiative reflects its unwavering commitment to peace, harmony, and development in Sikkim and strengthening the spirit of unity in iversity across the nation. Conducted under operation Sadbhavana, the Army’s flagship outreach programme is to strengthen civil-military cooperation and foster national integration in border areas.”
The Governor also engaged with local residents and listen their concern and grievances.
On his way to Lachen, the Governor made a stop at the newly restored 400-foot bailey suspension Taram Chu Bridge recently. Taram Chu Bridge is rebuilt by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) after the 2023 GLOF. He reviewed the area and assess the infrastructure. The bridge is a key development, enhancing connectivity between Lachen and other parts of Sikkim.
The programme was attended by the officials from Indian Army and state administration, Pipons of Lachen and Lachung and local residents.
सिक्किम के माननीय राज्यपाल श्री ओम प्रकाश माथुर ने आज अपनी तीन दिवसीय उत्तर सिक्किम यात्रा के पहले दिन छातेन, लाचेन क्षेत्र का दौरा किया। उन्होंने लाचेन में भारतीय सेना की ‘ऑपरेशन सद्भावना’ के अंतर्गत की गई कुल 164 जन कल्याणकारी विकास परियोजनाओं को लाचेन और लाचुंग की जनता को समर्पित किया जिन्हें लाचेन और लाचुंग के पिपोन् को सौंपे गए।
यह समारोह 27 माउंटेन डिवीजन के जीओसी मेजर जनरल के.एस. दधिवाल, एवीएसएम, एसएम, वीएसएम की उपस्थिति में आयोजित हुआ।
इन परियोजनाओं में विशेष तौर पर स्वास्थ्य सेवा संरचना को मजबूत करना, युवा सशक्तिकरण, अग्निशमन उपकरण, सामुदायिक कल्याण सुविधाएं, पर्यटन संवर्धन, महिला सशक्तिकरण तथा BRO द्वारा सड़क विकास संबंधी महत्वपूर्ण कार्य शामिल हैं। इन पहलों से दूरस्थ क्षेत्रों में रहने वाले स्थानीय लोगों के जीवन स्तर में उल्लेखनीय सुधार होने की उम्मीद है।
समारोह से पहले चीफ इंजीनियर स्वास्तिक ने राज्यपाल महोदय को इन नवीनतम परियोजनाओं का विस्तृत ब्रिफिंग दिया।
माननीय राज्यपाल ने समारोह को संबोधित करते हुए कहा, “भारतीय सेना की ‘ऑपरेशन सद्भावना’ सिक्किम के दूरस्थ इलाकों में विकास, सद्भावना और विश्वास का प्रतीक है। कठिन परिस्थितियों में भी सेना द्वारा किए जा रहे ये प्रयास सिक्किमवासियों के प्रति उनकी अटूट प्रतिबद्धता को दर्शाते हैं। सेना और स्थानीय समुदाय के सामूहिक प्रयास से हम इस क्षेत्र को और मजबूत एवं समृद्ध बनाएंगे।”
दौरे के दौरान राज्यपाल महोदय ने स्थानीय लोगों के साथ खुलकर संवाद किया और उनकी चुनौतियों से अवगत हुए।
रास्ते में राज्यपाल महोदय ने हाल ही में उद्घाटित तारामचु ब्रिज का निरीक्षण भी किया। इस ब्रिज ने लाचेन को सिक्किम के अन्य हिस्सों से फिर से जोड़ दिया है। इससे पर्यटन और स्थानीय अर्थव्यवस्था को नई गति मिलने की उम्मीद है।
इस अवसर पर जिलाधिकारी श्री अनंत जैन, पुलिस अधीक्षक, श्री एल. बी. छेत्री, स्थानीय प्रशासन के अधिकारी, पिपोन्स, जनप्रतिनिधि तथा बड़ी संख्या में स्थानीय ग्रामवासी उपस्थित रहे।
