The Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur attended the 73rd Plenary Meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC) held at State Convention Centre, Shillong, Meghalaya today.
The Governors and the Chief Ministers of other North Eastern states along with the Union Minister for DoNER attended the Plenary Meeting which was chaired by the Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah, who is also the Chairman of the NEC.
During the Plenary Meeting, the Governor Shri Om Prakash Mathur tabled his address where he raised several issues pertaining to the state.
The Governor stated that the Sikkim is geographically strategically positioned and sought special assistance from the central government and NEC. He mentioned that the National Highway is the lifeline of the state and he called for strengthening and timely maintenance of the national highway. He also raised other connectivity to Sikkim to ensure uninterrupted connectivity.
He also mentioned operational challenges faced by the Pakyong Greenfield Airport. The airport has remained non-operational for a couple of years and called for the early and smooth operation of flight across all seasons from Pakyong Airport.
सिक्किम के माननीय राज्यपाल श्री ओम प्रकाश माथुर ने आज मेघालय की राजधानी शिलांग में आयोजित पूर्वोत्तर परिषद (NEC) की 73वीं प्लेनरी बैठक में भाग लिया।
माननीय केंद्रीय गृह मंत्री एवं पूर्वोत्तर परिषद के अध्यक्ष श्री अमित शाह की अध्यक्षता में हुई इस उच्च स्तरीय और महत्तवपूर्ण बैठक में केंद्रीय DoNER मंत्री श्री ज्योतिरादित्य एम. सिंधिया सहित पूर्वोत्तर राज्यों के माननीय राज्यपालों, मुख्यमंत्रियों और वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों ने पूर्वोत्तर की समृद्धि, चहुंमुखी विकास और कनेक्टिविटी के प्रति अपनी सामूहिक प्रतिबद्धता को दोहराया।
बैठक के दौरान राज्यपाल महोदय ने सिक्किम की भौगोलिक और रणनीतिक आवश्यकताओं को रेखांकित करते हुए अपना लिखित भाषण पटल पर रखा। उन्होंने विशेष रूप से विकास, सड़क और हवाई संपर्क से जुड़े मुद्दों पर बल दिया, ताकि सिक्किम प्राकृतिक आपदाओं के समय भी शेष भारत से जुड़ा रहे और राज्य की प्रगति को नई गति मिल सके।
