05.08.2024 : Hon’ble Governor Shri Om Prakash Mathur addressed the budget session of the 11th Sikkim Legislative Assembly.
The Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, addressed the budget session of the 11th Sikkim Legislative Assembly, today.
In his address at the first budget session of the financial year 2024-25, the Hon’ble Governor commended the people of Sikkim for their active participation in the elections, with a voter turnout of 83.4%. He extended heartfelt congratulations to Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay ) and his entire team for their historic and impressive victories in both the Sikkim Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
The Governor highlighted the following key challenges being faced by the state :
1. The economic impact on the state’s revenue due to the damage caused by last year’s floods, particularly affecting the electricity sector.
2. Extensive damage to public infrastructure and private properties, including housing units, agricultural land, livestock, and tourist centers.
3. The need for reconstruction, renovation, and upgrading of National Highway 10, which has been damaged, in light of national security concerns and the problems faced by the public.
4. The declining population of the state.
Additionally, the Hon’ble Governor outlined the major achievements of the state, particularly in health, education, tourism, agriculture, women empowerment, manufacturing, environmental sustainability, sustainable development goals, and various central and state schemes.
On this occasion, the Hon’ble Governor called for the creation of a prosperous and inclusive Sikkim and the realization of the vision for Viksit Bharat @ 2047.
“We should transform our aspirations into reality and build a state that serves as an exemplary model for the world,” said the Hon’ble Governor.
The event was attended by the Chief Minister, the Speaker of the Assembly, Cabinet Ministers , and Members of the Legislative Assembly .
