    Member of the National Commission for Women (NCW), Ms. Delina Khongdup, paid a courtesy visit to Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur at Lok Bhavan this evening. Ms. Delina Khongdup was accompanied by the Chairperson and members of the Sikkim State Commission for Women (SSCW).

    During the interaction, the delegation briefed the Governor on the Commission’s ongoing initiatives to safeguard and promote women’s rights.

    The discussion touched on various issues; drug addiction, suicide cases among youth in the state, emphasising the need for collaborative efforts to address the raising issues.

    The Governor, Shri Om Prakash Mathur highlighted the need to create more awareness on domestic violence, suicide, drug etc engaging students, Self Help Groups and other stakeholders.

    The Governor expressed his serious concern on alarming figures on suicide and drugs cases in the state. He emphasised the necessity of a comprehensive approach to tackling drug trafficking through community efforts. Recognising the pivotal role of women in this movement, he called them the strongest force to lead the fight against drug addiction. He said that the campaign against drug abuse and for healthy lifestyles should be at mass level through sporting, art and recreational activities should be intensified.

    The Governor urged the members of the Sikkim State Women Commission to actively contribute to the cause, including seeking police support against drug abuse. He suggested to members to adopt all six districts of the State.

    He said that the use of drugs was a major evil in society and everyone had a part to play in protecting the youth from these illicit substances.

    Ms. Delina Khongdup briefed the Governor about her visits to various places of the State.
