12.12.2023 : Message of Hon’ble Governor on the occasion of Losoong Namsoong 2023.

On this most auspicious occasion of Losoong Namsoong, the Sikkimese New Year, I extend my warm greetings to all my fellow Sikkimese and pray that the occasion brings forth peace, prosperity and progress amongst all. The year shifts from the ongoing Water Rabbit year to the Wood Dragon Sikkimese Lunar year.

Sikkim is very rich in its culture & tradition and this annual festival represents one. The festival which includes Losi Kurim with annual Kagye Gutor, Namkhang followed by the new year (Chey Tsig) ensures removing of all the obscurations with the passing year and welcome the new year with hope and prayers.

Losoong and Namsoong is being celebrated across Sikkim with gay abandon and mask dances “Kagye Chyam” since centuries and it is these cultures we must proceed ahead with pride and compassion.
