13.04.2026 : The Governor of Sikkim granted an audience to the students and faculty members of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar, Haryana at Lok Bhavan.
The Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur today granted an audience to the students and faculty members of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar, Haryana at Lok Bhavan.
The students and faculty members from the Department of Geography of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar are on a week long educational tour to Sikkim.
A brief interaction session, students raised several questions related to Sikkim.
Responding the questions put forth by the students, the Governor said, “You (students) are the torch bearers of our nation. You are the driving force and future custodians of our country, our youth bear the responsibility in realising the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 which is envisioned by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. The future of India will shine through the future of youth, whose courage, talent, and dedication will guide the nation’s progress.”
He referred the Prime Minister’s “Ashtalakshmi” concept, highlighting cultural richness of northeast and vital role in the nation’s growth, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to the holistic development of the region. The Governor stated Sikkim is a shining example of India’s unity in diversity. People of different communities, religions, castes, and languages live in harmony and respect each other’s cultures and traditions.
The Governor also mentioned about the State government’s environmental initiatives of “Mero Rukh Mero Santati”. The “Mero Rukh, Mero Santati” programme involves the plantation of 108 tree saplings to commemorate the birth of every child in Sikkim.
The Governor said that Sikkim is a model example, known for its women empowerment, cleanliness, being plastic-free, smooth traffic management and zero violence.
He encouraged the students to adopt these best practices of Sikkim in their home state.
Earlier, the university faculty briefed about the objectives of the educational tour which aims to provide students with practical exposure to the Himalayan State.

सिक्किम के माननीय राज्यपाल श्री ओम प्रकाश माथुर से आज हरियाणा के गुरु जाम्भेश्वर विश्वविद्यालय, हिसार के भूगोल विभाग के संकाय सदस्यों और छात्रों ने लोकभवन में शिष्टाचार भेंट की।
यह समूह वर्तमान में भूगोल विभाग द्वारा आयोजित एक सप्ताह के शैक्षणिक भ्रमण पर सिक्किम आया हुआ है।
अंतरक्रिया के दौरान छात्रों ने सिक्किम की विशिष्ट भौगोलिक विशेषताओं, समृद्ध सांस्कृतिक विरासत और जैव विविधता से जुड़े प्रश्न पूछे। राज्यपाल महोदय ने उनके प्रश्नों का विस्तार से उत्तर दिया।
राज्यपाल महोदय ने प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेन्द्र मोदी द्वारा पूर्वोत्तर राज्यों को अष्टलक्ष्मी कहे जाने का उल्लेख करते हुए कहा कि सिक्किम भारत की सांस्कृतिक और प्राकृतिक समृद्धि का अनुपम प्रतीक है। उन्होंने कहा कि प्रतिकूल परिस्थितियों के बावजूद स्थानीय लोगों ने अपनी संस्कृति को संरक्षित रखा है। वे प्रकृति की पूजा करते हैं और पर्यावरण संरक्षण के प्रति अत्यंत सकारात्मक दृष्टिकोण रखते हैं।
राज्यपाल महोदय ने राज्य सरकार की ‘मेरो रुख मेरो संतति’ पहल की सराहना की, जिसके अंतर्गत प्रत्येक शिशु के जन्म पर पेड़ लगाने और उनकी देखभाल करने की परंपरा है। उन्होंने यह भी बताया कि सिक्किम प्रदूषण-मुक्त राज्य है और स्वच्छता यहाँ के लोगों के जीवन का अभिन्न हिस्सा है।
राज्यपाल महोदय ने छात्रों से आग्रह किया कि वे सिक्किम की इन अच्छी प्रथाओं को अपने राज्य हरियाणा में भी अपनाएँ। बच्चों को प्रोत्साहित करते हुए उन्होंने उन्हें विकसित भारत @2047 का अग्रदूत बताया।
विश्वविद्यालय के संकाय ने इस शैक्षणिक भ्रमण के उद्देश्य पर प्रकाश डालते हुए कहा कि यह यात्रा केवल सिक्किम भ्रमण भर नहीं है, बल्कि पढ़ाई को व्यवहारिक ज्ञान से जोड़ने का एक अनूठा अवसर है। छात्रों को यहाँ की जलवायु, जैव विविधता संरक्षण, सतत विकास और पर्यावरण-अनुकूल जीवनशैली को प्रत्यक्ष रूप से समझने का अवसर मिल रहा है।
गुरु जाम्भेश्वर विश्वविद्यालय के संकाय सदस्यों और छात्रों ने राज्यपाल महोदय को प्रेरणादायक मार्गदर्शन के लिए हार्दिक आभार व्यक्त किया। समूह ने यहाँ की जलवायु का प्रत्यक्ष अनुभव लेने हेतु उच्च ऊँचाई वाले क्षेत्रों के भ्रमण का निवेदन किया, जिसके लिए लोकभवन द्वारा पूर्ण सहयोग का आश्वासन दिया गया।
