Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur attended the first ever “Diamond State Summit” 2025 held today at Ashirwad Hall, Raj Bhavan, Gangtok.
The national news channel News18 India hosted Diamond State Summit where the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang also attended the programme.
The event, marked by two sessions, brought together Hon’ble Ministers, Hon’ble MLA’s, HOD’s, officers and Staff or Raj Bhavan and local gentries.
During the summit, NEWS18 India held discussions on various aspects and opportunities related to the development of the state. Responding to questions in this context, The Hon’ble Governor appreciated the hospitality and patriotism of the Sikkimese people, describing Sikkim as a shining example of discipline and an asset to the nation. He highlighted the state’s low crime rate compared to other states, effective traffic management, and strong commitment to environmental conservation.
The Hon’ble Governor shared that during his visits in all six districts, he gains first-hand understanding of organic farming and listens to farmers’ grievances and issues, which he promptly conveys to the State Government.
Speaking on national initiatives, the Hon’ble Governor said, “Under the Vibrant Village Programme envisioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister is now advancing towards the goal of Viksit Villages, in alignment with the collective vision of Viksit Bharat @2047. Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi many measures have been taken for development of North East India.”
He further mentioned about India Act East Policy for the development of the northeast region and under this policy the Centre government is building infrastructure so that Northeast India could emerge as an important hub in India’s engagement with South-East Asian countries. He also apprised that the main focus of the centre government is to improve cultural, trade exchange between NE states and neighboring countries.
The Hon’ble Governor also outlined various initiatives undertaken by Raj Bhavan, such as providing free UPSC coaching to students, and the ‘Gaon Mein Governor’ programme, which facilitates direct interaction with self-help groups, local entrepreneurs, and community members.
He lauded the women of Sikkim as torchbearers of women
empowerment in the nation, remarking that they are excelling in every sphere of development, often outpacing their male counterparts.
Promoting the Vocal for Local initiative, the Hon’ble Governor highlighted Angora rabbit farming, crafted fibres, and the achievements of Sikkimese women in creating international cosmetic brands such as Agapi. He also emphasized the state’s vast potential in the field of Ayurvedic and herbal medicines, calling for collective efforts to secure a strong presence in the global market.
The Hon’ble Chief Minister shared various welfare initiatives and flagship promrammes of the State government such as Mero Rukh Mero Santiti, Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana, Mero Baato Mero Bot, among others, which have significantly contributed to the growth and empowerment of the community.
The Hon’ble Chief Minister also mentioned that all those state government initiatives have played a pivotal role in addressing local needs, promoting sustainable development, and enhancing the quality of life of our people.
“With the unwavering support and visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, the State continues to strengthen its efforts, driving meaningful and lasting change across the region” said Hon’ble Chief Minister.

इस अवसर पर सिक्किम के माननीय राज्यपाल श्री ओम प्रकाश माथुर मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में उपस्थित रहे, इस दौरान राज्य के माननीय मुख्यमंत्री श्री प्रेम सिंह तामांग विशिष्ट अतिथि के रूप में सम्मानित हुए।
समिट के दौरान NEWS18 इंडिया द्वारा राज्य के विकास से जुड़े विविध पहलुओं और संभावनाओं पर चर्चा की गई। इस क्रम में पूछे गए प्रश्नों के उत्तर देते हुए राज्यपाल महोदय ने सिक्किम में अपने एक वर्ष के अनुभव को साझा किया। उन्होंने माननीय प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी जी की एक्ट ईस्ट नीति को विकास का प्रवेश द्वार बताते हुए कहा कि उत्तर-पूर्व भारत अब केवल पूर्व दिशा नहीं, बल्कि देश की उन्नति की दिशा बन चुका है।
राज्यपाल महोदय ने सिक्किम को असीम संभावनाओं वाला राज्य बताते हुए कहा कि यहाँ के स्थानीय उत्पाद राष्ट्रीय और अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर मार्केटिंग के लिए सक्षम हैं। उन्होंने सिक्किमवासियों की प्रशंसा करते हुए कहा कि यहाँ के लोग अत्यंत अनुशासित हैं, और अतिथियों के लिए उनके द्वार सदैव खुले रहते हैं। पर्यावरण के प्रति उनका प्रेम समस्त देशवासियों के लिए प्रेरणास्पद है।
माननीय राज्यपाल ने यह भी उल्लेख किया कि माननीय प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी जी के वायब्रेंट विलेज विज़न के तहत देश के अंतिम गांव को पहला गांव मानते हुए जो पहल की गई है, उसने सीमांत क्षेत्रों को एक नई दिशा दी है। राज्यपाल महोदय ने सिक्किम के लोगों के जीवन जीने के जज़्बे की सराहना करते हुए कहा कि सीमित संसाधनों के बावजूद वे नवाचार को सहजता से अपनाते हैं और हँसते-मुस्कराते जीवन जीने की कला अन्य राज्यों के लिए अनुकरणीय है। उन्होंने देश की सीमाओं पर कठिन परिस्थितियों में सेवा दे रहे सैनिकों के अटूट समर्पण को भी सम्मानपूर्वक स्मरण किया।
इसी क्रम में, माननीय मुख्यमंत्री श्री प्रेम सिंह तामांग ने सिक्किम के आर्थिक, सामाजिक और सांस्कृतिक विकास पर अपनी सरकार के विज़न को प्रस्तुत किया।
