    14.01.2025 : Maghey Sankranti Mela, 2025, officially commences at Jorethang.

    The Maghey Sankranti Mela, 2025, was officially inaugurated by the Governor of Sikkim, Mr Om Prakash Mathur, in the presence of the Chief Minister, Mr Prem singh Tamang, here at Jorethang today.
    This year’s Maghey Sankranti Mela 2025, celebrated on the month of January, is also the starting event for the upcoming 50 Years of Statehood celebration. The mela boasts vibrant cultural and traditional heritage with a blend of modern aspects showcasing the rich history of the state full flegedly.
    At the outset, the Governor who attended the occasion as the chief guest in the presence of the Chief Minister as the guest of honour, officially declared the opening of the Maghey Sankranti Mela 2025. Followed by releasing of pigeons as a symbol of peace and unveiling the offical badge of Maghey Sankranti Mela.
    While addressing the gathering, the Governor of Sikkim, Mr Om Prakash Mathur, thanked the Chief Minister, Mr Prem Singh Tamang, for forwarding an invitation to him to be part of this event. He mentioned about how the Maghey Sankranti Mela started with humble beginnings and reached so far evolving to be a grand event of the state.
    Talking about an area of expertise of entreptenuership, the Governor praised the effort of the Chief Minister to amalgamate multinational companies and local entreprenuers to build a sustainable future for the youth and helping them being employed into various sectors that they are capable of.
    The Governor stated that Sikkim has a blend and a mixture of various cultural and traditional heritage which showcases the unity in diversity of the state. Further he urged all the citizens to foster and showcase this very spirit of unity and work in tandem with the state government to take Sikkim towards greater heights in the coming future.
    Lastly, the Governor also assured all that he shall in all his capabilities work as a bridge between the state and the authorities in the central government to uplift and develop the state of Sikkim towards greater heights and a future of great possibilities.
    During the occasion, regular appointment orders were also handed over to Anganwadi workers and helpers by the chief guest and guest of honour. In addition, the Governor and the Chief Minister were also honoured with token of appreciation by the Maghey Sankranti Mela 2025 Committee.
    Moreover, 11 Nurses who were trained in German language under the Sikkim Inspires programme and got placement in Germany were felicitated by the Governor and Chief Minister. Similarly, the Mela Committee also honoured Footballer Ms Simran Gurung for representing the state at the International stage.
    The mela showcased cultural performances by different communities, like dhan nach, madal dance and khukuri dance with live folk instruments played by the local artists.
    The event also featured two football matches. The first match was the second quarter-final of the 10th All India Chief Minister’s Gold Cup Football Tournament, where Sudeva FC Delhi won over Sikkim Police FC to secure a spot in the semifinals. Mr. Kanginsei Touthang from Sudeva FC Delhi was named Man of the Match.
    The second match was the final of the Constituency Level Men’s Football Tournament, where Poklok-Kamrang emerged victorious with a 2-0 win against Chujachen, claiming the championship title.
    Mr Nimdup Lepcha from Poklok-Kamrang was adjudged as the best goalkeeper of the tournament whereas Mr Pratab Tamang also from Poklok-Kamrang was awarded
    for being the highest scorer of the tournament.
    Mr Daneal Lepcha from Chujachen recieved the man of the tournament awared, while Mr. Pranil Gurung from Poklok-Kamrang was acknowledged as the man of the match, and Dzongu Constituency was awarded with the best fair play team of the tournament.
