The Statehood Day of Jharkhand was celebrated at Raj Bhavan, Sikkim, on November 15th, 2024. The occasion also commemorated the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the revered tribal leader from Jharkhand who played a pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle and the advocacy for indigenous rights. The event took place in the gracious presence of Shri J.D. Bhutia, Secretary to the Hon’ble Governor.
The program began with a warm welcome address by the Deputy Secretary to the Hon’ble Governor, followed by a felicitation ceremony where the Secretary extended heartfelt greetings to the distinguished guests from Jharkhand and offered traditional khada.
A highlight of the event was a beautiful recitation of the self-composed poem “Jharkhand Tu Hai Adbut”, performed by a guest from Jharkhand, which captured the spirit and essence of the state.
In his address, the Secretary, Shri J.D Bhutia extended his appreciation to all those who graced the occasion. He emphasized the significance of the day, noting that it marks both the Foundation Day of Jharkhand and the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, a national hero whose contributions to India’s freedom struggle and the empowerment of indigenous communities are celebrated across the country.
He also reflected on the historical creation of Jharkhand in the year 2000, when it was carved out from southern Bihar on November 15th. He commended the state for its rich cultural heritage, abundant mineral resources, and burgeoning tourism industry, all of which contribute to the nation’s development and progress.
