The Governor of Sikkim Shri Om Prakash Mathur visited Directorate of Handloom and Handicrafts (DHH) at Zero Point here today

Upon his arrival, the Governor was accorded a warm welcome by the Secretary of Commerce and Industries department, Ms. Karma Youtso, Director of DHH, Shri T. T. Bhutia and other officials.

During the visit, the Governor took a tour of the exhibition, emporium and demonstration centre and held an extensive interaction officials, weavers and handloom workers.

While interacting with officials, the Governor raised the proper steps to strengthen the entire value chain-from raw material support to technology integration, design interventions, and market linkages in a comprehensive manner. He emphasized the pivotal role of the handloom sector in sustaining rural livelihoods and promoting sustainable, indigenous production systems.

He highlighted that the global demand for handcrafted products. He further urged the department to develop a new hub-and-export model to help reach the craftsmanship of artisans globally.

The Governor appreciated the Directorate of Handloom and Handicrafts sustained efforts in empowering the weaving community in the State.

The Director Shri T. T. Bhutia informed the Governor that all the handloom products were made from natural fibres, ensuring quality assurance, eco-friendly production and traditional craftsmanship.

सिक्किम के माननीय राज्यपाल श्री ओम प्रकाश माथुर ने आज गंगटोक स्थित हस्तशिल्प एवं हथकरघा निदेशालय का औपचारिक दौरा किया।
इस अवसर पर राज्यपाल महोदय ने निदेशालय में प्रदर्शित विभिन्न हस्तशिल्प एवं हथकरघा उत्पादों का गहन अवलोकन किया तथा वहाँ कार्यरत कारीगरों से संवाद किया। उन्होंने निदेशालय की चल रही गतिविधियों, प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रमों, उत्पाद प्रदर्शनियों और स्थानीय कारीगरों की पारंपरिक कलाओं एवं कौशलों के बारे में विस्तृत जानकारी प्राप्त की।

माननीय राज्यपाल ने कहा कि सिक्किम के हस्तशिल्प एवं हथकरघा उत्पाद न केवल राज्य की समृद्ध सांस्कृतिक पहचान को सुदृढ़ करते हैं, बल्कि स्थानीय अर्थव्यवस्था को भी सशक्त बनाने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाते हैं।

माननीय राज्यपाल ने बल दिया कि यह कला पीढ़ी-दर-पीढ़ी आगे बढ़े, परंपराओं को जीवित रखे और युवाओं को रोजगार के सार्थक अवसर प्रदान करे। इस दिशा में राज्यपाल महोदय ने अधिकारियों को निर्देश दिया कि इन उत्पादों को कौशल विकास, बाजार विस्तार और वैश्विक स्तर पर पहचान दिलाने के लिए निरंतर प्रयास किए जाएँ।

इस अवसर पर कॉमर्स और इंडस्ट्री की सचिव कर्मा यूतसो व निदेशालय के निदेशक श्री छीरिंग तोपगे भूटिया सहित अन्य वरिष्ठ अधिकारी उपस्थित रहे। उन्होंने राज्यपाल महोदय को निदेशालय की अब तक की उपलब्धियों, विभिन्न योजनाओं तथा आगामी प्रस्तावित कार्यक्रमों के बारे में विस्तार से जानकारी दी।

राज्यपाल महोदय ने वहाँ प्रशिक्षण प्राप्त कर रहे छात्रों को प्रोत्साहित करते हुए कहा कि वे अपनी कला को राष्ट्रीय और अंतरराष्ट्रीय मंच तक पहुँचाने का प्रयास करें।
