Commissioner-cum-Secretary to the Hon’ble Governor Attends Video Conference on ‘TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’
The Commissioner-cum-Secretary to the Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Jitendra Singh Raje, attended a video conference convened in reference to the ongoing nationwide campaign, ‘TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’, which aims to accelerate the detection, treatment, and elimination of tuberculosis under the National TB Elimination Program (NTEP).
The meeting was chaired by Smt. Punya Salila Srivastava, IAS, Secretary in the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, and witnessed the participation of Additional Chief Secretaries, Commissioner-cum-Secretaries, and Secretaries to the Hon’ble Governors of various States and Union Territories.
The primary focus of the meeting was to deliberate on strategies and action plans to achieve the national goal of a TB-free India, as envisioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, under the banner ‘TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’.
During the conference, a presentation was made highlighting several key components of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. Emphasis was placed on formulating effective strategies to significantly reduce the prevalence of tuberculosis across the country. The presentation also addressed the existing challenges in the implementation of TB elimination programmes and proposed solutions to overcome these barriers through coordinated efforts at multiple levels.
Focus was placed on the adoption and promotion of the Nikshay Mitra initiative, launched under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. An initiative aimed to encourage community participation with individuals, institutions, and organisations to support TB patients through nutritional and psychological aid, thereby fostering a people-centric approach and moral support in fostering TB management.
Progress under the Intensified 100-Day Campaign was also reviewed. The campaign, which seeks to enhance TB awareness, case detection, and treatment adherence, has played a vital role in efforts at the local and national level against the disease. Special attention was given to the importance of Jan Bhagidari—public participation and community ownership, which is pivotal in sustaining the momentum toward TB elimination.
Furthermore, the introduction of recent technological advancements was highlighted, particularly the use of high-end diagnostic machines and digital tracking tools. These innovations are enabling faster diagnosis, real-time patient monitoring, and more efficient management of the TB elimination process.
The meeting also spotlighted the vital role of Raj Bhavans and Raj Niwas in mobilizing support and generating awareness through outreach programs and public engagement activities.
Present along with the CCS were Dr Nagendra Gurung, Additional Director cum State TB Officer, Dr Nirmal Gurung, Deputy Director cum State TB Officer, National TB Elimination Program, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Sikkim and Dr Pushkar Gurung, Medical Officer to the Hon’ble Governor.
