The Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, has extended his warm greetings to the Nepali-speaking community across the globe on the occasion of “Nepali Bhasa Manyata Diwas.”
In his message, the Hon’ble Governor said, “Today is a historic and cherished occasion for the Nepali-speaking community worldwide. On 20th August 1992, a significant milestone was inscribed in the Indian Constitution with the inclusion of Nepali language as one of the scheduled languages.
This day serves as a reminder of the long and earnest struggle of millions of Indian Nepali-speaking people, who aspired to assert their true identity within the Indian union — through their culture, language, and way of life. The recognition of Nepali Bhasa in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution symbolizes the emotional and cultural integration of the community into the larger national fabric.
As we recall with deep respect the contributions of former Chief Minister, Late Shri Nar Bahadur Bhandari, and former Lok Sabha MP, Smt. Dil Kumari Bhandari, who played a pivotal role in achieving this milestone, let us also look ahead. Beyond celebration, may we work together for the continued propagation, promotion, and enrichment of this great national language.”
Happy Nepali Bhasa Manyata Diwas!
