Raj Bhavan Sikkim celebrated the Statehood Day of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram under the banner of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ in the gracious presence of the Hon’ble Governor Shri Om Prakash Mathur.

Addressing the gathering, the Hon’ble Governor, Shri Mathur, conveyed his heartfelt greetings and best wishes to the people of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram on the occasion of their Statehood Day.

Speaking about the formation of Arunachal Pradesh, the Hon’ble Governor mentioned that the state was called the North East Frontier Agency (NEFA) until 1972. On January 20, 1972, Arunachal Pradesh became a Union Territory, and later, on February 20, 1987, it was declared the 24th State of India. It is now known as one of the most beautiful and ecologically rich regions. Mizoram became a Union Territory in 1972 and gained statehood on February 20, 1987, he added.

The Hon’ble Governor said, “The celebration of this auspicious occasion will further strengthen the spirit of unity under ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.’ The celebration of Statehood Day in all Raj Bhavans is part of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s initiative to foster national unity and promote a cultural ethos. Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram are symbols of India’s rich cultural heritage. Our Hon’ble Prime Minister has described the Northeastern States as ‘Ashta Lakshmi,’ the eight forms of the goddess of wealth, in the region. This ‘Ashta Lakshmi’ has given a new pace of development to the entire Northeast under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister.”

He further mentioned that the event witnessed India’s cultural diversity, with performances of dances and songs by students and security personnel from Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram.

Officials from various central government institutions, security personnel, and students from Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram residing in Sikkim were special invitees.
