25.09.2025 : The Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim attended the inauguration of newly constructed Administrative and Academic Blocks , hostels of College of Horticulture, Bermiok as the chief guest.
The Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur attended the inauguration of newly constructed Administrative and Academic Blocks , hostels of College of Horticulture, Bermiok as the chief guest. The Hon’ble Governor inaugurated newly constructed Narendra Boys Hostel and Kachan Girls Hostel.
The Hon’ble Governor was virtually joined by Hon’ble Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan where he virtually inaugurated Academic and Administrative buildings.
The inauguration ceremony had the presence of Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Bhagirath Choudhary, the Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture of Government of Sikkim, Shri Puran Gurung, and the Hon’ble Area MLA , Shri B. S. Pant.
The programme also witnessed the inauguration as well as the Annual Zonal Workshop 2025 (ICAR–ATARI).
Upon his arrival at college campus, the NCC cadets of college presented a Guard of Honour, followed by the inauguration of the Agricultural Exhibition by the Hon’ble Governor. He visited the stalls set up by the Departments of Agriculture and Horticulture, Government of Sikkim, ICAR, the Spice Board of India, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, and various Self-Help Groups, and also shared valuable suggestions and insights.
Addressing the gathering, the Hon’ble Governor recalled his roots as a farmer and proudly described himself as a “farmer’s son.” He spoke about the agricultural innovations he had undertaken in his home town and emphasized that truly serving farmers means understanding their problems and providing them with practical and timely solutions.
He applauded the visionary leadership and inclusive policies of Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, noting that under the Prime Minister’s Ashtalakshmi concept, Northeast India has been firmly integrated into the mainstream of national development. He also highlighted the farmer centric schemes of the Government of India, including the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana.
Further, the Hon’ble Governor urged the scientists present at the event to conduct in-depth research on the declining cultivation of large cardamom in Sikkim. He observed that large cardamom is Sikkim’s “patent crop” and a priceless gift of the State to the world. He appealed to the scientific community to keep farmers’ interests at the centre of their research and to encourage innovation for addressing local agricultural challenges.
Additionally, the Hon’ble Governor called upon the State Agriculture Minister and the Central Agricultural University to initiate research and training programmes focused on local crops. He stressed that organic producers must receive the rightful value for their produce. In this regard, he spotlighted the urgent need for more Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), marketing strategies, and directed Krishi Vigyan Kendras to ensure stronger market linkages.
“It is essential that we expand the boundaries of our work move beyond papers and laboratories to reach the farmers’ fields, interact with them, understand their problems, and provide local solutions,” said the Hon’ble Governor.
Earlier, the Hon’ble Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, also addressed the gathering virtually, reiterating the Government’s commitment towards agricultural innovation, research, and farmers’ empowerment in Northeast India.
The Hon’ble Union Minister of State, Shri Bhagirath Choudhary also addressed the gathering.
The Hon’ble Governor, along with the Union Minister of State interacted with progressive farmers, lauded their experiences, and assured every possible support from Raj Bhavan towards strengthening the agricultural sector.
Also present on the occasion were Dr. G. Kadirvel, Director, ICAR–ATARI; Dr. Anupam Mishra, Vice-Chancellor, CAU; Dr. A. K. Pandey, Dean of the College of Horticulture; and other distinguished guests.
केंद्रीय कृषि विश्वविद्यालय (इम्फाल) के अंतर्गत बागवानी महाविद्यालय, बर्मिओक में आज एक भव्य कार्यक्रम का आयोजन हुआ, जिसमें महाविद्यालय के प्रशासनिक एवं शैक्षणिक भवनों, छात्रावासों के साथ-साथ वार्षिक ज़ोनल कार्यशाला 2025 (आईसीएआर – अटारी) का उद्घाटन किया गया। यह आयोजन ज्ञान, नवाचार और क्षेत्रीय कृषि विकास की दिशा में एक ऐतिहासिक पहल सिद्ध हुआ।
इस अवसर पर सिक्किम के माननीय राज्यपाल श्री ओम प्रकाश माथुर मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में उपस्थित रहे। उनके साथ केंद्रीय कृषि राज्य मंत्री श्री भगीरथ चौधरी, राज्य के माननीय कृषि मंत्री श्री पूरन गुरुंग तथा माननीय क्षेत्रीय विधायक श्री बी. एस. पंत की भी गरिमामयी उपस्थिति रही।
माननीय राज्यपाल के आगमन पर कॉलेज एनसीसी द्वारा गार्ड ऑफ ऑनर प्रस्तुत किया गया। तत्पश्चात उन्होंने कृषि प्रदर्शनी का उद्घाटन किया, जिसमें राज्य के कृषि एवं बागवानी विभाग, आईसीएआर, स्पाइस बोर्ड ऑफ इंडिया, कृषि विज्ञान केंद्रों तथा विभिन्न स्वयं सहायता समूहों द्वारा लगाए गए स्टॉलों का निरीक्षण किया और उपयोगी सुझाव भी दिए।
अपने संबोधन में माननीय राज्यपाल ने स्वयं को “किसानों का बेटा” बताते हुए अपने गांव में किए गए कृषि नवाचारों का उल्लेख किया। उन्होंने कहा कि किसानों की समस्याओं को समझना और उनके लिए स्थानीय समाधान प्रस्तुत करना ही सच्ची सेवा है।
उन्होंने माननीय प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी जी की दूरदर्शी सोच और समावेशी नीति की सराहना करते हुए कहा कि “प्रधानमंत्री जी की ‘अष्ट लक्ष्मी’ अवधारणा के तहत आज पूर्वोत्तर भारत विकास की मुख्यधारा से मजबूती से जुड़ चुका है।” उन्होंने केंद्र सरकार की किसान हितैषी योजनाओं जैसे प्रधानमंत्री किसान सम्मान निधि योजना, प्रधानमंत्री कृषि सिंचाई योजना आदि पर भी प्रकाश डाला।
राज्यपाल महोदय ने कार्यक्रम में उपस्थित वैज्ञानिकों से अपील की कि वे सिक्किम में घटती बड़ी इलायची की खेती पर गहन शोध करें। उन्होंने कहा कि बड़ी इलायची सिक्किम की “पेटेंट फसल” है और यह राज्य की ओर से विश्व को दिया गया एक अनमोल उपहार है। उन्होंने वैज्ञानिकों से आग्रह किया कि वे किसानों के हितों को केंद्र में रखकर अनुसंधान करें और स्थानीय कृषि समस्याओं के समाधान हेतु नवाचार को बढ़ावा दें।
माननीय राज्यपाल ने सभा में उपस्थित प्रदेश के कृषि मंत्री और कृषि विश्वविद्यालय से आग्रह किया कि स्थानीय फसलों पर केंद्रित अनुसंधान एवं प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रम चलाए जाएँ। उन्होंने कहा कि जैविक उत्पादकों को वह लागत मिलनी चाहिए जिसके वे सच्चे हकदार हैं। इसी दिशा में बाज़ार से जोड़ने हेतु अधिक एफपीओ (FPOs) और प्रभावी मार्केटिंग रणनीतियाँ विकसित करने तथा और अधिक कृषि विज्ञान केन्द्र की तत्काल आवश्यकता पर जोर दिया।
“यह आवश्यक है कि हम अपने कार्यक्षेत्र की सीमाओं का विस्तार करें, कागज़ों और प्रयोगशालाओं से निकलकर किसानों के खेतों तक पहुँचें, उनसे संवाद करें, उनकी समस्याओं को समझें और स्थानीय समाधान प्रस्तुत करें।” — राज्यपाल महोदय
इसके अतिरिक्त, माननीय राज्यपाल द्वारा महाविद्यालय परिसर में नवनिर्मित भवनों का उद्घाटन किया गया तथा वार्षिक ज़ोनल कार्यशाला 2025 का विधिवत शुभारंभ किया गया।
कार्यक्रम में भारत सरकार के माननीय केंद्रीय कृषि एवं किसान कल्याण मंत्री श्री शिवराज सिंह चौहान ने वर्चुअल माध्यम से भाग लिया और उपस्थित जनसमूह को संबोधित करते हुए पूर्वोत्तर भारत में कृषि नवाचार, अनुसंधान और किसानों के सशक्तिकरण की दिशा में सरकार की प्रतिबद्धता को दोहराया।
माननीय राज्यपाल ने राज्य के कृषि मंत्री के साथ प्रगतिशील किसानों से संवाद किया और उनके अनुभवों की सराहना की। उन्होंने कृषि क्षेत्र में राजभवन की ओर से हरसंभव सहयोग देने का आश्वासन दिया।
इस अवसर पर आईसीएआर- अटारी के निदेशक डॉ. जी. कादिरवेल, सीएयू के कुलपति डॉ. अनुपम मिश्रा, बागवानी महाविद्यालय के डीन डॉ. ए. के. पांडेय एवं अन्य गणमान्य अतिथि उपस्थित रहे।
