30.12.2023 : Hon’ble Governor paid visit to affected areas of Dikchu and Phidang by recent flash flood.

The Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, engaged with the local residents, business community, and those affected by the recent flash flood at Dikchu bazar. During his visit, the Hon’ble Governor inquired about the current status of the affected residents and their living conditions post the flash flood.
He engaged with the victims, offering his ear to their grievances and concerns. He gained insights into the challenges faced by the affected community, paving the way for more effective and targeted efforts. He also learned about the central and state schemes being implemented in the area and directed officers and Panchayat members present on-site to ensure the implementation of these schemes, emphasizing their reach to every doorstep.
The residents took the opportunity to apprise the Hon’ble Governor of the profound significance of the Dikchu Shiv Mandir, a cultural and spiritual landmark standing for over 70 years. This temple was washed away by the flash flood. Recognizing the deep emotional attachment of the community to the temple, the Hon’ble Governor promptly conducted an on-site visit to assess the impact on the Dikchu Shiv Mandir.
Further, the Hon’ble Governor proceeded to Phidang Village, Sangtok Ward, Lum Gor Sangtok GPU, Lower Dzongu. Here, he witnessed the aftermath of the flash flood, which resulted in the washing away of two bridges and seven houses. He then visited the temporary bamboo bridge at Pidhang Lower Dzongu, gaining insights into the challenges faced by the community. Lum Gor Sangtok GPU’s Panchayat President, Mr Dawa Dorjee Lepcha, briefed the Hon’ble Governor on the damages and the current state of affairs in the area.
The Hon’ble Governor reiterated the state’s commitment in coordination with the central government in providing swift and comprehensive assistance to the affected areas.
The Hon’ble Governor was accompanied by SDM Gangtok Mr Suresh Rai, BDO Tintek Mr Kishor Thapa, and Panchayat Dikchung Jang Ward Mr Tilak Sharma.
