29.04.2025 : The Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, has expressed deep sorrow on the passing of Professor Jyoti Prakash Tamang, Acting Vice-Chancellor of Sikkim Central University.
The Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, has expressed deep sorrow on the passing of Professor Jyoti Prakash Tamang, Acting Vice-Chancellor of Sikkim Central University.
In his condolence message, the Hon’ble Governor said,
_“The news of the demise of Professor Jyoti Prakash Tamang, Acting Vice-Chancellor of Sikkim Central University and Senior Professor (Microbiology), is deeply saddening.
As a renowned food scientist, Dr. Tamang dedicated 39 years to research on the traditional foods of the Himalayan region. He was the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the United Nations University Women’s Association Award (1996), the National Bioscience Award (2005), and the Gourmand World Cookbook Award (2010). He was also a distinguished member of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Indian Academy of Microbiological Sciences, and the Biotechnology Research Society of India.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the academic community. His demise is an irreparable loss to the scientific fraternity of the region and the nation.”
सिक्किम के माननीय राज्यपाल श्री ओम प्रकाश माथुर ने प्रोफेसर ज्योति प्रकाश तामांग , कार्यकारी कुलपति ,सिक्किम केंद्रीय विश्वविद्यालय के निधन पर शोक प्रकट किया है।
अपने संदेश में माननीय राज्यपाल ने कहा, “प्रोफेसर ज्योति प्रकाश तामांग जी, कार्यकारी कुलपति ,सिक्किम केंद्रीय विश्वविद्यालय एवं वरिष्ठ प्रोफेसर (सूक्ष्मजीव विज्ञान) के निधन का समाचार अत्यंत दुखद है।
प्रख्यात खाद्य वैज्ञानिक के रूप में डॉ तामांग ने 39 वर्षों तक हिमालयी क्षेत्रों के खाद्य पदार्थों पर शोध किया। उन्होंने संयुक्त राष्ट्र विश्वविद्यालय महिला संघ पुरस्कार (1996), ‘राष्ट्रीय जैव-विज्ञान पुरस्कार (2005) और गौरमंड वर्ल्ड कुकबुक पुरस्कार (2010)’सहित कई सम्मान प्राप्त किए। वे राष्ट्रीय कृषि विज्ञान अकादमी, भारतीय सूक्ष्मजीव विज्ञान अकादमी और भारत की जैव-प्रौद्योगिकी अनुसंधान सोसायटी के सदस्य रहे ।
उनके परिवार, मित्रों और शैक्षणिक समुदाय के प्रति मेरी संवेदनाएँ व्यक्त करता हूँ। उनका निधन क्षेत्र और देश के वैज्ञानिक जगत के लिए अपूरणीय क्षति है।”
