Raj Bhavan Sikkim joined the nation in celebrating the 79th Independence Day today with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm.
The Hon’ble Governor, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, hoisted the Tiranga at Raj Bhavan in a formal ceremony, marking the auspicious occasion.
He extended warm greetings to the officers, and staff of Raj Bhavan, ITBP Jawans, CRPF personnel, and others present.
Paying heartfelt tribute to the valiant freedom fighters and reaffirming the collective commitment to the nation’s unity and progress, Hon’ble Governor offered floral homage at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi within the Raj Bhavan premises. He was accompanied by the Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Shri Jitendra Singh Raje, and other officials.
In his address, the Hon’ble Governor called upon every citizen to actively contribute to nation-building, emphasising that freedom is not only a right but also a responsibility. He urged all to fulfil this responsibility through their actions, thoughts, and dedicated service to the nation. He further highlighted that Independence was earned through invaluable, boundless, and unforgettable sacrifices of our freedom fighters.
Marking the celebration, Hon’ble Governor distributed sweets to the officials and staff of Raj Bhavan, ITBP and CRPF personnel, and others who joined in celebrating the joyous occasion.
The brass band of Government Higher Secondary School, West Point, enhanced the celebrations with their melodious renditions of patriotic songs. This talented school band has brought laurels to the state, having won the national championship in the past, and having performed at Vijay Chowk, New Delhi, during the Republic Day celebrations.
In recognition of their remarkable achievements, the band has now been invited to perform internationally in Liverpool, United Kingdom, in June 2026 — a prestigious honour that brings pride to Sikkim and showcases the state’s rich cultural heritage on the global stage.
Acknowledging their outstanding performance, the Hon’ble Governor presented a sum of ₹51,000 to the school band as a token of appreciation and encouragement.

स्वतंत्रता दिवस की 79वीं वर्षगाँठ के अवसर पर आज राजभवन परिसर में एक गरिमामय समारोह का आयोजन किया गया। इस ऐतिहासिक दिन पर सिक्किम के माननीय राज्यपाल श्री ओम प्रकाश माथुर जी ने राष्ट्रीय ध्वजारोहण कर राष्ट्र के प्रति अपनी श्रद्धा और सम्मान व्यक्त किया।
इसी कड़ी में, राज्यपाल महोदय ने राजभवन परिसर में स्थित महात्मा गांधी की प्रतिमा पर पुष्प अर्पित कर उन्हें श्रद्धांजलि दी।
राज्यपाल महोदय ने अपने संबोधन में सभी को राष्ट्र निर्माण में सक्रिय भागीदारी का आह्वान किया। उन्होंने कहा कि स्वतंत्रता केवल एक अधिकार नहीं, यह एक उत्तरदायित्व है जिसे हमें अपने कर्म, विचार और सेवा से निभाना है।
समारोह की गरिमा को और अधिक ऊँचाई प्रदान की सरकारी उच्च माध्यमिक विद्यालय वेस्ट पॉइंट के विद्यार्थियों द्वारा प्रस्तुत ब्रास बैंड ने, जिन्होंने राष्ट्रीय धुनों की मधुर प्रस्तुति दी। यह विद्यालय बैंड वर्ष 2023 से लगातार दो बार राष्ट्रीय चैंपियन रह चुका है, और गणतंत्र दिवस के अवसर पर विजय चौक, नई दिल्ली में अपनी प्रस्तुति देकर राज्य का गौरव बढ़ा चुका है। इस प्रतिभाशाली बैंड को जून 2026 में अंतरराष्ट्रीय प्रदर्शन के लिए लिवरपूल, यूनाइटेड किंगडम से आमंत्रण प्राप्त हुआ है, जो सिक्किम की सांस्कृतिक प्रतिभा का वैश्विक मंच पर सम्मान है।
विद्यालय बैंड की प्रस्तुति की सराहना करते हुए राज्यपाल महोदय द्वारा प्रोत्साहन स्वरूप ₹51,000 की राशि प्रदान की गई है।
समारोह के अंत में, राज्यपाल महोदय ने राजभवन परिवार के सदस्यों को मिठाई वितरित कर इस राष्ट्रीय पर्व की मिठास साझा की।
इस अवसर पर राज्यपाल महोदय के कमिश्नर सह सचिव श्री जितेंद्र सिंह राजे सहित राजभवन के अधिकारीगण, कर्मचारीगण एवं उनके परिजन उपस्थित रहे।
