08.09.2025 : The Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, visited the Fambong Lho Wildlife Sanctuary and the Sikkim Armed Police Headquarter at Pangthang today.
The Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, visited the Fambong Lho Wildlife Sanctuary and the Sikkim Armed Police Headquarter at Pangthang today.
Upon his arrival at Fambong Lho Wildlife Sanctuary, the Hon’ble Governor was warmly welcomed by the Chief Wildlife Warden, Dr. D. Manjunathan and Gangtok District Officers.
During the visit, the Chief Wildlife Warden Dr. D. Manjunathan briefed the Hon’ble Governor on the ecological significance of the sanctuary and the ongoing efforts made by the Forest and Environment Department for conservation of wildlife endangered species.
While interacting with the forest officials, the Hon’ble Governor suggested for Wildlife Tourism stating, “Wildlife tourism will get a new dimension as this sanctuary, nestled in the lap of nature, is rich in natural wealth, biodiversity, and home to various endangered species.
He asked the official to develop some of the areas as wildlife tourist destination to attract more visitors both national and international.
The Hon’ble Governor mentioned that Forest and Tourism department should work together to boost wildlife tourism.
The Fambong Lho Wildlife Sanctuary spread across approximately 51.76 square kilometers and is known for its rich biodiversity. The sanctuary is home to the endangered Red Panda, Himalayan Black Bear, various rare bird species, as well as a wide variety of medicinal plants and herbs.
During the visit, the Hon’ble Governor also planted a Rhododendron sapling. And he also lauded the natural beauty and biodiversity.
While returning, the Hon’ble Governor
stopped in Sikkim Armed Police (SAP) Headquarter at Pangthang, where he was accorded a guard of honour by SAP personnel.
He reviewed the functioning of the oldest armed police camp and interacted with officers, appreciating their dedication and service.
माननीय राज्यपाल ने किया फम्बोंगलो अभयारण्य और सिक्किम सशस्त्र पुलिस मुख्यालय का दौरा।
आज सिक्किम के माननीय राज्यपाल श्री ओम प्रकाश माथुर ने राज्य के प्रसिद्ध फम्बोंगलो वन्यजीव अभयारण्य का दौरा किया। यह अभयारण्य लगभग 51.76 वर्ग किलोमीटर में फैला है और पूर्व तथा पश्चिम दो हिस्सों में विभाजित है। यहाँ लाल पांडा, हिमालयी भालू और कई दुर्लभ पक्षियों के साथ-साथ औषधीय पौधों और जड़ी-बूटियों की भरपूर विविधता देखने को मिलती है।
इस दौरान मुख्य वन्यजीव वॉर्डन डॉ. डी. मंजुनाथन ने राज्यपाल महोदय को क्षेत्र की विशेषताओं और संरक्षण प्रयासों की जानकारी दी। इस अवसर पर राज्यपाल महोदय ने रोडोडेंड्रोन का पौधारोपण भी किया। उन्होंने अभयारण्य की सुंदरता और जैव विविधता की सराहना करते हुए कहा कि प्रकृति की गोद में बसा यह स्थान जैव विविधता का खजाना है।
इसके बाद राज्यपाल महोदय ने पांगथांग स्थित सिक्किम सशस्त्र पुलिस मुख्यालय का भी दौरा किया, जहाँ उन्हें गार्ड ऑफ ऑनर के साथ स्वागत किया गया। इस दौरान राज्यपाल महोदय ने संस्थान की कार्यप्रणाली का जायज़ा लिया और अधिकारियों से बातचीत की।
