The Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim Shri Om Prakash Mathur flagged off a bike rally at Raj Bhavan here today to mark the commemoration of the 59th Nathula Vijay Diwas.
Nathula Vijay Diwas is an annual celebration on September 11, which holds special significance as it marks the victory of the Indian Army and honoring the sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces during the 1967 Indo-China war led by Late Maj. Gen. Sagat Singh.
The bike rally was organised by the 17th Mountain Division of Indian Army, Gangtok, comprising 60 bikers including women bikers where they would pass through Nathula Pass, Dokala Pass and Chola Pass. The rally also serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by the Indian Army especially Major General Sagat Singh.
Encouraging the bikers, the Hon’ble Governor extended his best wishes for the successful completion of the journey.
During the flagg off ceremony, Hon’ble Governor highlighted the supreme sacrifices of martyrs, their courage and their achievements and stated that the nation remembers and honours their sacrifices every year on Nathula Vijay Diwas.
Besides the Hon’ble Governor also attended the flag in ceremony of the National Integration Tour (NIT) – 2025 where he interacted with 20 participating school students of Sichey, Gangtok.
The event was attended by the Commissioner cum Secretary Raj Bhavan, Shri Jitendra Singh Raje, GOC of 17 Mountain Division, Major General M. S. Rathore senior Army officers, family members of Late Maj. Gen. Sagat Singh, officers and staff of Raj Bhavan, army jawans, teachers and students.
During the programme, Hon’ble Governor interacted with the participating students who also presented a marching song of the Indian army’s Assam Regiment “Badluram ka badan zameen ke neeche hai..! which was enjoyed by the Hon’ble Governor and other dignitaries present.
