15.12.2025 : The Governor of Sikkim Shri Om Prakash Mathur attended the 8th Convocation Ceremony of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Sikkim as the chief guest.
The Governor of Sikkim Shri Om Prakash Mathur attended the 8th Convocation Ceremony of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Sikkim as the chief guest. The convocation ceremony was held at the congregation hall Tathagata Tsal, Ravangla today.
During the convocation, the Governor conferred seven gold medals and degrees upon the graduating students, extended his best wishes to them, and wished them a bright and successful future. A total of 170 degrees were conferred in various disciplines viz; engineering, science, information technology, humanities, and social sciences with 133 undergraduate, 22 postgraduate and 8 Ph.D degrees.
In his convocation address, the Governor, Shri Mathur said that the ceremony is not merely an event to confer degrees, but a testament to the hard work and dedication of the students. He urged the graduates to utilize their knowledge in the service of society and nation-building. He emphasized that the true purpose of education is not only intellectual development but also character building, and that in today’s rapidly changing global environment, honesty, discipline, and ethical values have become even more significant.
The Governor called upon the students to always place the spirit of “Nation First” above everything else. He said that knowledge attains true value only when it contributes to the development of the country. Encouraging the graduates, the Governor said that youth will play the most crucial role in building a Viksit Bharat@ 2047 envisioned by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. He extended his best wishes to all graduating students for a successful future and for bringing pride to the nation and the state.
The Governor also appreciated the Director of NIT Sikkim, Prof. Mahesh Chandra Govil, along with the faculty and staff for their efforts and performance despite operating from temporary premises with limited resources.
On the occasion, an Honorary Doctorate was conferred upon Shri Sajan Kumar Bansal, Managing Director, Skipper Limited for his significant contributions.
The ceremony was attended by area MLA (Barfung constituency) Shri Rikshal Dorjee, former Director at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, Virendra Kumar Tewari, Chairman of the Board of Governors (BoG) NIT Sikkim, Shri Ramesh Kumar Saraogi, Board Members and other host of dignitaries.
एनआईटी सिक्किम का आठवाँ दीक्षांत समारोह सम्पन्न माननीय राज्यपाल श्री ओम प्रकाश माथुर मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में उपस्थित
राष्ट्रीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान (एनआईटी) सिक्किम का आठवाँ दीक्षांत समारोह आज बुद्ध पार्क स्थित कॉन्ग्रिगेशन हॉल में सम्पन्न हुआ। इस अवसर पर माननीय राज्यपाल श्री ओम प्रकाश माथुर मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में उपस्थित रहे।
इस अवसर पर कुल 170 उपाधियाँ प्रदान की गईं, जिनमें 133 स्नातक (UG), 22 स्नातकोत्तर (PG) तथा 8 पीएच.डी. उपाधियाँ सम्मिलित हैं। ये उपाधियाँ इंजीनियरिंग, विज्ञान, सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी, मानविकी एवं सामाजिक विज्ञान जैसे विभिन्न अनुशासनों में विद्यार्थियों को प्रदान की गईं। साथ ही विभिन्न विभागों के 7 स्वर्ण पदक भी मेधावी विद्यार्थियों को दिए गए।
इस समारोह में श्री सजन कुमार बंसल, प्रबंधन निदेशक, स्किपर लिमिटेड को मानद उपाधि भी प्रदान की गई।
अपने उद्बोधन में माननीय राज्यपाल ने कहा कि यह समारोह युवाओं की मेहनत और समर्पण का उत्सव है। उन्होंने उपाधि प्राप्त विद्यार्थियों को बधाई देते हुए इसे विद्यार्थियों, उनके माता-पिता, गुरुजनों और संस्थान के लिए गर्व का क्षण बताया।
राज्यपाल महोदय ने विद्यार्थियों को प्रेरित करते हुए कहा कि शिक्षा का उद्देश्य केवल ज्ञान अर्जित करना नहीं, बल्कि उसे मानवीय मूल्यों और राष्ट्र-निर्माण में उपयोग करना है। उन्होंने राष्ट्र प्रथम की भावना को सर्वोपरि रखने का विद्यार्थियों से आह्वान किया और कहा कि वे अपने तकनीकी ज्ञान का उपयोग नवाचार, अनुसंधान तथा गाँव, समाज, राज्य और राष्ट्र की सेवा में करें।
माननीय राज्यपाल ने कहा कि माननीय प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी की संकल्पना विकसित भारत @2047 के नायक आप युवा हैं। उन्होंने विद्यार्थियों से आह्वान किया कि वे मोदी सरकार की डिजिटल इंडिया, स्टार्ट अप इंडिया और स्टैंड अप इंडिया जैसी लाभकारी योजनाओं का लाभ उठाएँ। उन्होंने कहा कि भारत आज अग्रणी राष्ट्रों में से एक है और हमें पुनः विश्व गुरु बनाने का संकल्प लेना चाहिए। सोचने का दायरा बढ़ाएँ और संकल्प शक्ति लेकर आगे बढ़ें।
राज्यपाल महोदय ने संकाय सदस्यों से भी आह्वान किया कि वे हमारे महान विद्वानों की विरासत को आगे बढ़ाएँ और विद्यार्थियों को ज्ञान के साथ संस्कार भी प्रदान करें, क्योंकि शिक्षा बिना संस्कार अधूरी है।
राज्यपाल महोदय ने एनआईटी सिक्किम के निदेशक प्रो. महेश चंद्र गोविल, संकाय सदस्यों और कर्मचारियों को बधाई देते हुए कहा कि विपरीत परिस्थितियों और सीमित संसाधनों के बावजूद संस्थान ने उल्लेखनीय प्रगति की है। उन्होंने विश्वास व्यक्त किया कि यह संस्थान शीघ्र ही अपने स्थायी परिसर ख़ामडोंग में स्थानांतरित होकर विश्व के श्रेष्ठ तकनीकी केंद्रों में अपनी पहचान बनाएगा।
समारोह में विशिष्ट अतिथियों में क्षेत्रीय विधायक श्री रिक्सल दोर्जी सहित श्री जी.पी. उपाध्याय, आचार्य वी.के. तिवारी, एनआईटी सिक्किम के शासी मंडल के चेयरमैन श्री रमेश कुमार सरावगी, सदस्य श्री उगेन छोपेल एवं श्री सजन कुमार बंसल, निदेशक प्रो. महेश चंद्र गोविल, संकाय सदस्य, छात्र-छात्राएँ, अभिभावक, केंद्र एवं राज्य सरकार के प्रतिनिधि तथा मीडियाकर्मी उपस्थित रहे।
