06.06.2026 : The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Coal, Mines and Steel under the Chairmanship of Member of Parliament today paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Sikkim at Lok Bhavan here.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Coal, Mines and Steel under the Chairmanship of Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, Member of Parliament today paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur at Lok Bhavan here. The Parliamentary Standing Committee comprises seventeen other members (Members of Parliament). During a brief interactive session Chairman Shri Thakur praised Sikkim’s exceptional cleanliness, traffic discipline, and warm hospitality.

While interacting with members of committee, the Governor highlighted the resilience of local communities in preserving their traditions and their deep respect for nature.

The Governor also mentioned the state government’s enviornmental initiative, which promotes tree planting to mark the birth of every child.

The Governor highlighted several key aspects related to Sikkim’s strategic importance and socio-cultural development. He emphasized the significance of Sikkim’s international border, particularly in the context of Nathu La, which shares the border with China. He stated that Nathu La Day, observed on 11 September, will now be celebrated as Nathu La Vijay Diwas. This day marks the crucial role played by Lieutenant General, Sagat Singh in defending the Nathu La and Cho La passes against Chinese incursions, leading to a decisive Indian victory in 1967.

He also shared about the active participation of women in the development of the state. The Governor further apprised the Committee of the ongoing efforts towards sustainable development in Sikkim.

On this occasion, the Commissioner cum Secretary to the Governor, Shri Jitendra Singh Raje was also present and welcomed all the members on behalf of Lok Bhavan Sikkim.

कोयला, खान एवं इस्पात संबंधी संसदीय स्थायी समिति के अध्यक्ष श्री अनुराग सिंह ठाकुर सहित अन्य सदस्यों ने आज सिक्किम के माननीय राज्यपाल श्री ओम प्रकाश माथुर से लोकभवन में शिष्टाचार भेंट की।

इस अवसर पर बैठक के दौरान एक संवाद सत्र आयोजित किया गया, जिसमें श्री ठाकुर ने सिक्किम की स्वच्छता, यातायात अनुशासन और आतिथ्य सत्कार की भूरि- भूरि प्रशंसा की।

माननीय राज्यपाल ने समिति के साथ चर्चा करते हुए सिक्किम में पर्यावरण संरक्षण की दिशा में राज्य सरकार द्वारा चलाई जा रही उल्लेखनीय योजनाओं पर प्रकाश डाला। उन्होंने नाथू-ला के ऐतिहासिक महत्व और राज्य के विकास में महिलाओं की सक्रिय भागीदारी पर भी अपने विचार साझा किए। राज्यपाल महोदय ने समिति को सिक्किम में हो रहे सतत विकास के प्रयासों से भी अवगत कराया।
इससे पूर्व, समिति ने गंगटोक में कोयला मंत्रालय, बीसीसीएल , एनईसी और सीसीएल के प्रतिनिधियों के साथ ‘कोयला खानों में संरक्षण, सुरक्षा एवं अवसंरचना विकास’ विषय पर विस्तृत चर्चा की।
इस अवसर पर माननीय राज्यपाल के आयुक्त सह सचिव श्री जितेंद्र सिंह राजे भी उपस्थित रहे, जिन्होंने लोकभवन की ओर से सभी का स्वागत किया।
