The newly elected executive members of the Press Club of Sikkim (PCS), led by President, Shri Samir Hang Limboo called on the Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Praka Mathur at Lok Bhavan today.
During the courtesy meeting, the president introduced the executive members to the Governor and briefed about the activities and functioning of the PCS.
While interacting, the Governor congratulated the president Shri Samir Hang and other executive members. He urged the journalists to highlight Sikkim’s rich unique identity and other developments in the national media. He stressed the need for wider media coverage of Sikkim’s rich flora and fauna, natural beauty and cultural heritage.
He emphasised the need to maintain the core values of journalism in the changing times and circumstances.
Referring to the 1967 clash between India and China, he said “Many people of our country are still unaware of Sikkim’s rich military history and other various facts where India won the war against china under the heroic leadership of Major General Sagat Singh. Such Shaurya Gatha of the armed forces must be highlighted in the media to inspire the youth and foster a strong sense of nationalism.”
Highlighting various issues, the Governor said “Journalists should focus on grassroots-level reporting, emphasizing the importance of issues, achievements, and developments.
The Governor spoke about the digital age of journalism and stated that a revolution has taken place that has reshaped the ‘Patrakarita’. He mentioned that the internet has now become a catalyst for change offering journalists boundless opportunities to disseminate stories and other news across platforms in real time. He asked journalists to utilize such platforms responsibly for wider media coverage of the State.
Meanwhile, president, Shri Samir Hang on behalf of PCS extended a formal invitation to the Governor to grace the 24th Foundation Day of Press Club of Sikkim scheduled to be held on 17 July of this month.
प्रेस क्लब ऑफ सिक्किम के नवनिर्वाचित कार्यकारी सदस्यों ने आज लोक भवन में अध्यक्ष श्री समीर हांग लिंबू के नेतृत्व में सिक्किम के माननीय राज्यपाल श्री ओम प्रकाश माथुर से शिष्टाचार भेंट की।
इस बैठक के दौरान, अध्यक्ष ने राज्यपाल महोदय को प्रेस क्लब ऑफ सिक्किम की गतिविधियों और कामकाज के बारे में जानकारी दी।बातचीत के दौरान राज्यपाल महोदय ने अध्यक्ष और अन्य कार्यकारी सदस्यों को बधाई दी। उन्होंने पत्रकारों से सिक्किम की समृद्ध पहचान और अन्य विकास कार्यों को राष्ट्रीय मीडिया में उजागर करने पर जोर दिया। उन्होंने बदलते समय और परिस्थितियों में पत्रकारिता के मूल मूल्यों को बनाए रखने की आवश्यकता पर भी जोर दिया।
भारत और चीन के बीच 1967 के टकराव का जिक्र करते हुए राज्यपाल महोदय ने कहा, “हमारे देश के कई लोग अभी भी सिक्किम के समृद्ध सैन्य इतिहास और अन्य विभिन्न तथ्यों से अनजान हैं, जहाँ भारत ने मेजर जनरल सगत सिंह के वीर नेतृत्व में चीन के खिलाफ युद्ध जीता था। युवाओं को प्रेरित करने और उनमें राष्ट्रभक्ति की भावना को मजबूत करने के लिए सशस्त्र बलों की ऐसी ‘शौर्य गाथा’ को मीडिया में प्रमुखता से दिखाया जाना चाहिए।”
माननीय राज्यपाल ने आगे कहा कि सिक्किम में विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में अपार संभावनाएँ हैं, जिन्हें राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर प्रचारित और प्रसारित करने की आवश्यकता है।राज्यपाल महोदय ने पत्रकारिता के डिजिटल युग के बारे में बात करते हुए कहा कि एक ऐसी क्रांति आई है जिसने ‘पत्रकारिता’ को नया रूप दिया है। उन्होंने इंटरनेट को बदलाव का एक सशक्त माध्यम बताते हुए कहा कि यह माध्यम वास्तविक समय में समाचार प्रसारित करने के असीमित अवसर प्रदान करता है। उन्होंने पत्रकारों से राज्य के व्यापक कवरेज के लिए इन प्लेटफॉर्मों का जिम्मेदारी से उपयोग करने का आग्रह किया।
इसी मध्य, अध्यक्ष ने राज्यपाल महोदय को इसी महीने की 17 जुलाई को आयोजित होने वाले प्रेस क्लब ऑफ सिक्किम के 24वें स्थापना दिवस पर मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में शामिल होने के लिए औपचारिक रूप से आमंत्रित किया।
