Sikkim Governor, Shri Om Prakash Mathur today visited severely damaged landslide affected stretch of National Highway 10 (NH10) at 20th Mile, Bardang under Pakyong district.

During the visit, the Governor conducted an extensive inspection of the landslide-affected vulnerable stretch of the National Highway where restoration and debris clearance operations are being carried out by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL). He reviewed the deployment of men and machinery and directed the NHIDCL officials to expedite clearance works while ensuring the safety of the personnel engaged in restoration activities

Due to heavy monsoon rainfall has repeatedly triggered landslides at the 20th Mile, Bardang, disrupting traffic over the past several days. NH10, a vital artery connecting Sikkim with rest part of the country, which serves as the lifeline for the landlocked Himalayan state.

The NHIDCL official informed the Governor about the ongoing restoration works, the challenges posed by the frequent landslide and other works being undertaken to restore normal traffic movement at the earliest.

The Governor directed the NHIDCL to expedite clearance and restoration work and emphasized seamless connectivity.

सिक्किम के माननीय राज्यपाल श्री ओम प्रकाश माथुर ने आज बारदांग स्थित ‘प्रेरणा स्थल’ से वापस गंगटोक लौटते समय राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग-10 के 20 मील पर हुए भारी भूस्खलन क्षेत्र का जमीनी निरीक्षण किया। मानसून की निरंतर और बारिश के कारण पहाड़ी से भारी मात्रा में मलबा और पत्थर गिरने से यह मुख्य रास्ता वर्तमान में पूरी तरह अवरुद्ध है और वाहनों की आवाजाही ठप है।
स्थिति का जायजा लेने के लिए राज्यपाल महोदय मुख्य मार्ग पर रुके, जहाँ राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग और बुनियादी ढांचा विकास निगम लिमिटेड (NHIDCL) के अधिकारियों ने राज्यपाल महोदय को इस भूस्खलन की चुनौतियों और वर्तमान स्थिति से अवगत कराया।
अधिकारियों ने माननीय राज्यपाल को रिपोर्ट दी कि मलबे को साफ करने और मार्ग को दोबारा खोलने के लिए बड़े पैमाने पर बहाली का कार्य चल रहा है। राज्यपाल महोदय ने अधिकारियों को यात्रियों की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करने और सिक्किम की इस जीवन रेखा को सुरक्षित रूप से बहाल करने पर विशेष जोर दिया।
