    Shri R.H. Tahiliani was born into a Sindhi Hindu family, he was married to Jaswanti Tahiliani. He served as the Governor of Sikkim from 1990 to 1994. He brought much change and sophistication to the Raj Bhavan. It was during his tenure that Nar Bahadur Bhandari’s Sikkim Sangram Parishad saw a break in their party on the Sikkim Income Tax issue and Sanchaman Limboo emerged as the Chief Minister for almost half a year, making way for Pawan Chamling who came to power with a massive mandate, with the Mandal Commission card initiated by his predecessor fully in play. His Holiness The Dalai Lama visited Sikkim during his tenure as the Governor as the state hosted the Kalachakra pooja and Raj Bhawan hosted a reception for the Dalai Lama. The Dalai Lama flagged off a mobile TB clinic sponsored by the world memorial fund, Prime Minister Shri VP Singh and President Venkataraman also visited Sikkim during his tenure.

    He is the father of noted Indian fashion designer, Tarun Tahiliani and executive director of Ensemble India, Tina Tahiliani Parikh. Shri R.H. Tahiliani passed away on 14 October 2015.
