    Shri T. V. Rajeshwar was born on 28 August 1926 in Salem, Tamil Nadu. He completed his primary education at Gurusamipalayam Sengunthar Mahajana School and later obtained his Master’s degree in Economics from Presidency College, Madras University.

    He was an Indian Police Service officer, an Intelligence Bureau Chief and was Governor of Sikkim from 21st November 1985 to 1st March 1989. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2012.

    During his tenure, a serious earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale occurred. The old Raj Bhavan experienced significant shaking and was deemed unsafe for use on the first floor and he was marked by his dedication to safety and the enhancement of the Raj Bhavan premises to ensure a pleasant and secure environment for all residents and visitors. He also designed an “Aranya nivas” in the western part of the Raj Bhavan premises, nestled amidst the trees. This tranquil space comprised two rooms with attached bathrooms and a long balcony, providing a serene environment that made visitors feel surrounded by nature.

    He has a daughter and a son. His daughter Sujatha is a former IFS officer, Indian Ambassador to Germany and Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs of India.

    Shri T. V. Rajeshwar passed away on 14 January 2018.
