PRESS RELEASE

Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim Shri Ganga Prasad today attended International Organ Donation Day at Patna as Chief Guest. He was joined by Union Minister for Law and Justice Shri Ravishankar Prasad, Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Shri Sushil Modi, Ministers, MLAs and various other dignitaries in a glittering function organised by Dadhichi Dehadaan Samiti, a Non-Governmental Organisation working to promote organ donation for the benefit of deprived and needy people who cannot afford high cost of organ transplantation in India.

Addressing the function, Hon’ble Governor exhorted everyone present to commit to the service of mankind even after death. He underlined the importance of organ donation after death and said that one body can give or save life of as many as 50 individuals if donated within prescribed time limit after one’s death. Stressing on the need to spread the goodwill and benefits of organ donation after death, Hon’ble Governor further highlighted on the existing law in the country for such lawful donations. The initiative needs to be expanded to make it a people’s movement with right orientation of the mass towards this noble cause of mankind since there are thousands and thousands of unnatural deaths in the country, Hon’ble Governor added. As responsible citizen, we can serve the society during our lifetime and beyond, Hon’ble Governor said, urging hundreds of prospective donors  to join the movement.

It may be mentioned that Hon’ble Governor himself has registered for donating his body and is an active executive member of Dadhichi Dehadaan Samiti for over a decade.
