Siliguri, September 11 (Raj Bhavan): The Honourable Governor of Sikkim, Shri Ganga Prasad flagged off cycle rally at CRPF Camp, Siliguri today which continued the cycle rally from Siliguri to Patna. The cycle rally had started from Jorhat, Assam as a part of the "Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav" programme.

CRPF has organised four rallies from four corners of the country, that is, from Kashmir, Gujurat,Gandhinagar, Kerala,Pallippuram and Assam, Jorhat. All the rallies will terminate at Rajghat, New Delhi, the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi, on Gandhi Jayanti, 2nd October 2021. The rallies are being organized with a focus on the youth of the country to get them connected with the brave stories of our freedom fighters and with the sacrifices made by unsung heroes of India’s freedom movement.

The flagged off programme was attended by Member of Parliament, Jalpaiguri, Dr. Jayanta Kumar Roy as the guest of honor, national boxing coach, Sandhya Gurung as the special guest along with other senior officers of CRPF, SSB, BSF,  Police Officer of Siliguri, Siliguri Municipal Corporation, other dignitaries and cycling lovers.

The Honorable Governor, Shri Ganga Prasad said, "The central government has taken many initiatives to develop the Northeast like other parts of the country. The Northeastern region has huge potential and it will play a big role in the future. Now the Union government is also looking at the developmental works in the region on a regular basis."

The Honorable Governor gave his best wishes to the cyclists for the Cycle Rally and paid homage to freedom fighters remembered.

The cycling team consists of 25 CRPF officers and personnel along with supportive staff.
