Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim Shri Ganga Prasad today attended 3rd Foundation Day of Apparel Training and Design Centre located at Shram Bhavan, Sokaythang, Tadong. Mayor Gangtok Shri Shakti Singh Chaudhary, Addl. Chief Secretary to Governor Dr. K Jayakumar, Secretary, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Department, Mrs C.C Bhutia, Secretary Labour Department Shri L.P Chettri, Senior Officials, Principal, faculty and trainees were present on the occasion.

The centre under Ministry of Textiles, Government of India is established in December 2015 in collaboration with Department of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of Sikkim.

Hon’ble Governor released a compendium of the training centre and distributed certificates to the trainees who have completed their training of three and six month on apparel design and manufacturing.

Addressing the function, Hon’ble Governor expressed his happiness on the activities of the centre and how it is empowering the womenfolk by providing them the required skills for apparel sector.

Stressing on the need to promote entrepreneurship through various skill oriented training programs among the youth of Sikkim and transforming the youth population from job seekers to  job providers, Hon’ble Governor urged the participants and trainees to take advantage of Government of India flagship programmes like Make in India, Start Up India, Skilled India  etc. for economic empowerment. He also urged the trainees and government officials to capitalise on the huge potential the Sikkim has as a brand in the country. 

The function was also addressed by Addl Chief Secretary to Governor Dr. K Jayakumar besides a colourful cultural presentation by students and trainees of ATDC.
